Hello everyone. Tether USDT is currently facing significant regulatory challenges in the European Union, which may impact its availability on various exchanges.
As of December 30, 2024, USDT is at risk of being delisted from exchanges in EU due to non-compliance with the new regulations called Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA). These regulations impose strict transparency and licensing requirements on stablecoin issuers, which Tether has reportedly failed to meet.
In spite of these challenges, USDT remains available on multiple regulated exchanges outside of the EU. Major exchanges like Binance, Kraken and Crypto.com continue to list USDT, although some exchanges have begun to limit or prepare for its potential delisting in Europe.
The issue has led to concerns about liquidity particularly in European Market where users might move towards alternative stablecoins like USDC or DAI.
In reply to these regulatory challenges, Tether has made strategic investments in compliant ventures within Europe, such as backing the issuer of stablecoin StablR, which holds the necessary licenses under MiCA.
This action is interpreted as an attempt to navigate the changing regulatory environment and keep a footing in the European market.
While Tether is experiences significant obstacles in Europe leading to potential delistings, it continues to operate on regulated exchanges outside of the EU, maintaining its status as a major player in the global crypto market.
