SCAM Direct Message in X - Would you fall for it?
Today I received another message on X, that could well be perceived as a normal message. Read below what I did and how I found out that it was a scam.
I received a simple hi by this account. I know that people who contact us first are most likely scammers. But I wanted to see what they were up to. So I responded back and then I got a message by a verified profile, a very well crafted text, inviting me to participate to an upcoming podcast.
Exciting, right?
This person had probably used Grok or other AI to check my profile so they mentioned all things that matched my interests; it seemed as if they had researched really well.
I was sure that this was a scam, but I wanted to prove it.
The account was under a very specific name and a photo, this suggested a potential impersonation of this lady. So I used the name and searched on LinkedIn.
Guess what I found!
The real person was informing everyone on LinkedIn that this was not a real account and that she does not have an X account!
If you wonder what this person would do, they send a link that may include a virus or a malware in order to get access to your computer.
Therefore I am here to tell you again to be extra attentive, always search the validity of what you read and always question messages you receive - even if they seem to come by your own parents!
