”Blackbirds tend to like shiny things.” ~ The Bloody Raven
Under the category of Gothic Styled Stacking or Viking styled Stacking, is Ragnarök Metals' 1.5 troy oz. Valkyrie round. I've already made a post on the similar 2.7 troy oz. Valkyrie Bar back in November 2020. But one thing seemed odd...
When I picture a Valkyrie, I'd imagine some Viking Goddess similar to this Monarch Viking warrior shield maiden Bar. So, according to Norse mythology, the Valkyrie are feminine figures tasked with choosing half of combat slain warriors to Fólkvangr, Freyja's afterlife, the other half go to God's hall called Valhalla.
So where does the Raven come in as far as these ladies are concerned?
Just as a creature that sometimes accompanies a Valkyrie though what role the Raven plays is not known.
So why did Ragnarök called this Valkyrie? 🤔
I don't know yet.🤷♀
Now with that said...
Introducing, The Valkyrie Round.
Typical Modus Operandi of Ragnarök is that one ounce is not enough so for that satisfying feel of heftiness he had to make it 1.5 ounces.
The edge is left plain but given a hammered appearance as if this silver round has been crudely struck in Valhalla's forge works and appropriately toned as if it were made more than a millennium ago.
But upon closer inspection of the scuff and polish lines appear too perfect and parallel. It is that this round was not poured but machine milled.
The back also shows the Text RAGNAROK MTLS as raised text rather than a typical incused style as impressed by a stamp. The manufacturing process is called Micromilling as performed by a Computer Numerical controlled milling machine.
Interesting contrast: The latest manufacturing equipment producing what appears to be 1500+ year old Viking money.
And it feels great in my hands. Next!...
Silver Shield's Fiat Nevermore, Mini Mintage.
On January 2019, I posted the 2018 1 Troy oz. Fiat Nevermore coin but I wasn't totally happy with quality of the one ounce brilliant uncirculated version with an annoying milk spot, not until this big baby came along.
This big 5 troy ounce PROOF medallion having the much finer details than the earlier 2018 1 troy ounce version. Especially in the Raven's plumage, individual and distinct flight, secondary, and contour feathers down to the shafts and vanes.
The Obverse side is the fabulous trademark Trivium of the Silver Shield that had seen two other iterations since the this brand's founding back in 2011. Again, the fine details are much more distinct, a work of art.
Personally, the Trivium is what always attracted me to this series and with the indirect reference to a Classic American author Edgar Allen Poe this was a must have in my stack.
The fact that this is a proof quality round, low mintage, and reasonably price over comparable generic rounds at the time, September 2021, made this a great deal for the collector and good value for the average Stacker.
In this case, bigger is better.
Are these worth getting?
This Fiat Nevermore sits about the middle of the Pure Stacker/Collector Continuum leaning more to the collector. For the Stacker, one can turn to the cheaper One ounce, Brilliant Uncirculated rounds as there is a price break depending on the quantity of silver rounds ordered from GSM.
The Valkyrie round sits squarely in the Collectable category but suits my poured Pirate silver collection. I can happily play with it in my hands whereas the Fiat Nevermore, will just have to stay in it's protective Air-tite capsule.
Adding another Silver piece in my Pirate stack.
Always adding Silver and Crypto to my Stack for the coming dark and stormy night!
