My second trial post on the InLeo,
Last Wednesday, I’ve been talking to my Tenant to see if she had any progress in getting government subsidized housing for herself with her two children. They’ve been on the waiting list for almost 10 Years by now. I was careful how I phrased it, I don’t intend to kick her out, in fact I've enjoyed our growing friendship over the years as her kids were growing up next to mine. She was very reliable, helped maintain our home's appearance, did most of the gardening and kept Deb company while I was out.
She is still hoping for a three bedroom unit, yet admitting that it is feeling hopeless with the constant influx refugees as well as immigrants are being constantly prioritized ahead of her family. Good luck finding accommodation in the open market as well with average rental rate for a two bedroom being $2,181CAD/month in the Greater Vancouver region while her government housing allowance is $925CAD/ month maximum and living allowance is a bare bones $1,300CAD/month. From the Rental ads we looked at lately is that the CBC’s figures looked sadly out of date as I’m seeing prices around $2,500 to $2,800/month. I shudder to think how many single parents are forced to choose between shelter and meals. The homeless shelters are beyond capacity.
This rising cost of living is insane.
She smiled in appreciation, “Thanks again for having us stay.”
“It’s no problem you’re like family to me. We'll take care of each other.” I replied.
We hugged and moved on to what she would want to plant in the veggie garden this year. We’re expanding the garden. Things will get tougher with more Inflation headed our way and Trudeau sending another $3 Billion to the Ukraine. That's another $75 per person! I can almost hear those cash printers pitching higher.
With the trajectory of housing costs getting worse, I may be preparing some room to have some guests in the next year.
Vancouver, one of the world's Most Liveable Cities of 2023, what bunch of Hogwash unless you make a 7+ figure income.
And now for my #sgs Stacker friends.
Here’s a local mystery silver round. There is no information I could find on this little silver One ounce gem proof. It’s not in Numista, not mint.ca, not even Northwest Territorial mint as a ball park guess. Therefore, who minted these and how many are simply not known. An examples of this coin are found on Ebay for at $115 CAD from a local dealer whose store was located in Vancouver.
“Black birds tend to like shiny things.” ~ The Bloody Raven.
But I remember seeing this silver round selling at the Vancouver Aquarium selling for $29.99 at the Souvenir shop back in the 90’s. They still featured dolphins, Beluga whales and other marine animals though the facility was more an education center than an entertainment venue. The policy change had started from GreenPeace’s 1975 protest concerning the captivity of these magnificent creatures.
Whale Watching tours became the thing to do since.
In 2018 the Vancouver aquarium finally decided to no longer keep any whales or dolphins in captivity. The facility continues to be an Education center and will at times serve as a Marine rescue recovery center in times of emergencies for handling injured marine animals.
The Killer Whale statue is known as ‘Chief of the Undersea World’. A 1984 bronze creation by the famous local artist Bill Reid who created numerous works on display at many locations around Vancouver. It stands a good 5.5 meters high.
A very touristy photo location and be careful on handling food in plain view, the seagulls are very aggressive for a free lunch.
Spring is coming! Thanks for dropping in today friends!
