A foodie’s diary

Is there any human who doesn't love food? I believe the answer is no, and everyone will agree with me that food is one of the most basic human needs. We just concluded the Muslim fast, and many of my Muslim family members have lost so much weight just because we don't get to eat as much as we did before the fast.

Every Eid, I am always forced to sew a new dress just because I always look smaller in my dresses after the fasting, and that explains how much we need food to look beautiful and have strength as well.

I am a caterer, and it has influenced my choice of food a lot. Growing up, I didn't have a choice when it came to food, and most times, I just stayed with rice because I didn't like much of our local meals. They make me feel heavy, and it's really exhausting to spend two hours sweating just to make one meal. The most annoying thing is that I always lose my appetite after going through the stress of preparing the meal.

My grandma loved swallow meals, and when I switched to living with my parents, my dad happened to be a chronic local food addict. He wouldn't mind eating swallow morning, afternoon, and night, so it was like moving from fry pan to fire, but my parents were very understanding, and they gave me the freedom to cook whatever I wanted, unlike grandma, who always insisted that whoever doesn't eat heavy meals won't live long.

Right from childhood, I have always loved light meals because they are very easy to prepare, and I succeeded in making my family eat light meals often. Since I started cooking, my mom barely enters the kitchen, and it has helped me make my family eat foods other than swallow.

My family now loves varieties of food other than just eating the same meal every morning and another fixed one at night.

Eating out isn't one of our habits because it sounds odd for me to go and eat food I can actually prepare for myself, and even when there is an occasion that warrants eating out, we love to make our order online from a trusted kitchen and enjoy it at home without distraction or noise outside. I can go to parties and flex outside, but food is never the reason for that because I just love to hang out.

Despite not being a heavy eater, a lot of people still refer to me as a foodie because I love to eat bit by bit. I eat smaller food more than three times a day, and if you add those bits, it would eventually be more than that huge food someone else ate.

I wouldn't say I am a very good cook, but doing it repeatedly has made me improve a lot. While in school, I always insisted that I wanted to cook, and my roommates complimented me a lot, so I can confidently say that I am trying my best. I have tried lots of recipes online and do not hesitate to try them out when I lay my hands on the ingredients.

Food is a lot of things, and it means life as well, because without it, we will find it difficult to go about our daily activities.

It's day 10 of the Aprilinleo task, and this is my entry. Check out this post to learn more about it.
