UK Announces Plans to Become an 'AI Super Power'

With growing concerns about the UK economy, the fall in the value of the pound and crises in UK public services, the UK prime minster has announced plans for AI across the nation.

Many of us have concerns that employment will fall as a result of AI, but the Prime Minister said that the government had a responsibility for working people.

The 'AI Opportunities Action Plan' has the backing of leading tech firms. Some of these firms have committed a total of £14bn towards AI projects which, the government says, will create 13 250 jobs.

The action plan was created by Matt Clifford. He made 50 recommendations which are now being implemented.

One of the recommendations was to build a supercomputer to increase computing power.

AI can help:

  • Workers and businesses to spend less time on administration to boost productivity.
  • Spot drivers who are under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
  • Inspect roads and locate potholes.
  • Improve the accuracy of medical diagnosis.

Of course, we have to be aware that AI is not perfect and isn't always accurate.

For example, it's possible that drivers could be stopped for 'drink driving' because they were swerving to avoid potholes.
