What Is GHAWG?

#GHAWG is short for "God's Hog: A Watchful Guardian." This fictional story tells how David Guardia, a courier and business owner from Bayonne, New Jersey, US moved into the next phase of his life after spending the final ten years of his ailing father's life helping him.

"Things OK, Sanjay?" asked Rhonda.

"Oh yes," he replied. "My family & Rekha's family are taking a cruise together."

"Did you guys charter the boat?"

🏍️ This zapfic entry is a reminder of Sanjay Rampersad's back home in India. The cruise which Rhonda Bella Guardia had overheard in Sanjay's half of the telephone conversation includes not only his family but also that of his future in-laws after he and Rekha Ramakrishnan get married. Rhonda's joke about chartering a boat made him laugh since both families are large and their union makes them even larger.

🏍️ During the late 1800s and early 1900s, the major port of entry for immigrants arriving to the United States on the East Coast was Ellis Island, a New Jersey island located in New York Harbor near both the Statue of Liberty and New York City. For many descendants of these immigrants, entry via Ellis Island was a major point of pride. Ancestors of Lindsay Etxeberria came from the Basque region between Spain and France. Ancestors of The Twins were ethnic Russians from the country we know today as Ukraine. As for David Guardia, we discover that his ancestors entered at the Port of Miami, Florida, US, so they must be more recent immigrants to the United States.

Fast forward to the explosion of illegal immigration to the United States starting in February 2021. Many of these illegal immigrants entered the United States via the border with Mexico, along the Rio Grande river separating Mexico and Texas. During this period along the Texas-Mexico border, one of the flashpoints for this illegal immigration was a small town named Eagle Pass. Regardless of what happens to these illegal immigrants, for any who have descendants who are natives of the United States, will they want to say that their ancestors entered the country as illegal immigrants? Even if they acknowledge this detail, will they be proud enough to reveal that detail?

🏍️ Within a couple of days of David Guardia prophesying that Terry Leo would be elected the next Mayor of Chicago, the smear campaign against the lieutenant from the Chicago Police Department Auxiliary begins. In a city where it feels like 99.44 people out of 100 support one political party, why worry about the vote of that 56/100 of a person? Yet some powerful people are so terrified of this man that they began overreacting. This is similar to what happened with a political novice who came from the world of entertainment, and we know how that turned out.

From Dayton we rode east on Ohio 35 for nearly 140 miles, all the way to the Ohio River, which formed part of the border between Ohio and West Virginia. Once over the river, we switched from West Virginia 35 to County Road 2.

As soon as we crossed the Ohio River into West Virginia we were in Henderson. Just as soon as we entered Henderson we rode into Point Pleasant, home of the Mothman Museum.

🏍️ When I wrote this zapfic entry, I misjudged the character length of the entry. Because of the way I structured the entry, I decided to retain the image I made using the erroneous entry even though I added the rectified entry as a thread reply.

🏍️ Mothman is a humanoid with large moth-like wings on its back. First reports of Mothman were made in the late 1960s. I first learned of Mothman a few years ago via History Channel. I would not have included this zapfic entry had I not noticed the Mothman Museum on the digital map. Since it was on the digital map, I decided to make use of that detail. For some reason I recalled incorrectly that Mothman was found in North Carolina, which is why the zapfic image includes that comment.

🏍️ While the sight-seeing ended after Felix Legion arrived in Chicago, Illinois, US to complete the ride along what was believed to be the path used by the legendary Route 66 of yore, there are more interesting places and things to see as the Epic Ride with David Guardia continues. The first such attraction since leaving Chicago is the Mothman Museum in Point Pleasant, West Virginia, US. Although Felix Legion won't stop to spend time there, this attraction was noteworthy enough to deserve some sort of mention.

County Road 2/62, also known as Ripley Road, takes us east & then north. When we reach Millwood, we see the Ohio River again. A few miles north we reach Ravenswood. After Country Road 2 leads to I-77 we go a few miles to Ripley.

🏍️ This travel entry is descriptive enough to give the reader the ability to visualize the area referred to in the text. For someone minimally familiar with the area around the states of Ohio and West Virginia, this pinpoints the region being described. For people not familiar with this geography, they can still imagine the area, as if it was they were reading a tale taking place in a fantasy realm.

🏍️ Earlier in Rat Bike I introduced the installation of nitrous oxide cannisters as a way for the supporting characters-- the Brothers Marchenko and The Kids-- to interact with each other. "The nitrous" figures prominently when Felix Legion rides out of Santa Fe, New Mexico, US only to find itself on a road blocked by climate change activists. Spanning several zapfic entries, this is the first time we see Felix Legion acting as a unit. This was also the first time we see Felix Legion engaged in a daring display of theatricality. Without "the nitrous" being available for them in they're time of need, we don't see independent journalist Aníbal Rivera being asked about that daring display of theatricality during his guest appearance on a podcast.
