4TH Birthday on Hive
So it's my 4th Birthday on Hive and I am not too sure how it feels, I mean I still remember how I stumbled across the platform. It was January 2018 and I was coming off the back of the big winter where I had invested in XRP which I bought in at the top.... Then well, 20c is what it went to. I gave up on Crypto and on my way out I found Steemit.
I had no clue what it was but I bought some and still, had no idea how to send it to my wallet. Things were a lot harder then and I maintained it on the exchange. That too rekt me. I decided to give blogging a shot but really had no idea what I was doing.
I was an avid drone flier and a part of a drone community so thought I'd run some contests in my community and my idea was simple. Share onto Steemit and winner took profits and I would keep an admin fee. But it didn't take long for a few people to join and just google images and add them. Caused a bit of grief.
I found some calling in @pinmapple where I would share awesome Australian locations and drop them on the map which scored me a few dollars from time to time. I then called it the quits as it didn't work out too well for me.
It wasn't until the pandemic hit that I returned and Hive was born which occurred right before the pandemic and by this stage a lot had changed in the crypto world and things were easier to use and access. Hive was also a massive improvement from Steemit which didn't have anything going for it. I missed most the big wars but delegated to the witnesses we have today, I wasn't keen on centralisation and take over.
There have been continued development including newer front ends which left steemit blog webite behind and look really inferior. All in all Hive has taken things to another level.
What have I learned?
So what have I learned over the past four years? there has been a lot really and to be honest this blockchain really helped me through the pandemic and gave me something to do and focus on. I made new friends and picked up new skills.
But I still remember joining and looking at other peoples posts, seeing their earnings and trying to work out how to be like them and I think a lot of new people join and try to fit a certain frame work. But you can't, you need to develop and build your own content and your own identity.
For me it has been parenting and finance blogs on Leo Finance and with Leo it has only been the past few months where I have lifted my game and drawn on all my knowledge and put it to good use.
I even started my own project (which is still BUIDL) to learn more about how blockchains operate and that even provided me an edge when interviewing projects. It built my understanding and I am a better blogger for it.
Regrets
I started an account on Splinterlands when it first launched, opened it and thought nope not for me I CBF. Well, everyone else who kept playing are now rolling in crypto cash and I am sitting here wishing I could do it again.
But that's life I guess. We don't know what is going to happen tomorrow and my main game here has always been just to have fun, not take it too seriously and enjoy my time with the friends I have made. After all tomorrow all our accounts could be worth 0, this is crypto.
Happy Hive Birthday to me!
