Drone Technology Advancements and Capabilities
Yesterday I wrote about how I successfully received my RPA Accreditation and expanding my business into Drone work and today I want to showcase more about the expansion of drone's and industries and their benefits which are just growing by the day.
For those that don't know, I also undertake emergency management and have been deployed to many major incidents from bushfires, floods and even the latest epidemic being COVID. One thing I have learned is that saving lives isn't just about having the capabilities, tools, resources and latest technology. It all comes down to how fast you can get them dispatched and on the field.
For years the only way to get to hard terrain is via air which was costly and had to have entire crews on standby to access helicopters and planes as well as clearing air craft an an enormous amount of work.
Drone's The Cheap, Fast and Reliable Alternative
But all of that has rapidly changed with the introduction and advancement in Drone technology with the latest from DJI and many other manufacturers coming equipped with additional add on's like search and rescue lights, beacons, pay load dropping, infra-red, heat reading and much more. The benefit to this technology is that when compared to a Helicopter or plane it comes at a miniscule cost.
They are also deployed way faster and do not require the same level of man power to operate so that means more boots on the ground where it counts. Within a matter of seconds to minutes you can have a drone up in the air and heading to the hot zone which can all be synched and live streamed to a control room or command centre for live viewing and direction by control.
Tech Advancements
The tech advancements especially in obstacle avoidance has significantly moved forward with a lot of the equipment now functional in low light settings and my latest drone comes with 360 degree viewing through those sensors so I am constantly able to monitor who and what is around me with the drone notifying me.
Additional options enable to drone to pause and hover if an obstacle is in it's path or you can set it to completely mauver around it depending on what it is you're trying to do. The latest advancement to come out will also see Artificial Intelligence (AI) included which from what I have seen is amazing, the drone itself can scan and track as well as identify objects providing a second set of eyes which is really important when you're searching different types of terrain.
Camera Capabilities Increased
The other additional upgrades in this next gen Drone tech is the ability of the camera, my previous drone only had the one function whereas my latest drone comes with different ND Filters to use in different light settings which I am still trying to get across. There is also a 3X Zoom which is quite amazing where my previous Drone did not enable zoom function, this one lets me capture a smaller field and zoom in.
If you're undertaking a search and rescue and come across something, that zoom function will quickly help you identify what you're looking for and from a safe distance. It's really quite amazing and while social media lowers the quality of the footage I upload, the RAW files are impressive to look at.
Drone's in Business and Marketing
While we have seen the use of drones emerge in real estate as it provides potential buyers the ability to see their potential new home from above and see where all the land marks and important things like shops, schools, free way entrance is. As well as the fly through's which add another level of marketing, I believe we will see many more businesses moving towards the adoption of Drones in marketing.
Marketing is all about being seen and raising your business profile, there is no better way to do that than to offer future potential clients or consumers something new. While we have had aerial photography for years, they are far and few in between due to the immense cost to capture that footage.
Everyone, is always captivated by aerial photography due to the fact it is something as human's we can not do easily which is fly. But if you're a local business and you employ a local drone operator to include drone footage in your ads you will reach more people, purely for the fact locals are 100% more likely to click your add so they can see their community from the sky.
I've been documenting the expansion of the Western Suburbs Growth Corridor over the last few years and each post generates over 15,000 views. It is one of the most powerful marketing tools in the modern age where we are over saturated by shorts, reels, meme's and much more.
While costs aren't cheap they aren't all that expensive either when compared to other marketing types and it is a style with a guaranteed hit rate which is something I will go into more detail about in the future about it.
The industry is new and starting to grow, so fingers crossed I can carve out a little niche for me in this field.
