Good day everyone, I'm here with yet another exciting topic which is Why Are You Putting Off. A lot of people fall into this category, as we tend to put things that need to be done immediately till further time. It is natural for us, humans, to procrastinate things. But the major question we ask, is why? That's what we are here to talk about.
I saw a tweet yesterday when someone(can't remember the user's username) tweeted that, he was procrastinating doing a household task for 18 months and just did it, and it didn't take him up to 15 minutes to finish the task. He ended the tweet by saying, would he learn anything from it? You can get the humour, that he surely won't learn from it and would most definitely do the same thing in the future.
Can you imagine postponing a task that takes only 15 minutes for 18 months, that's ridiculous. But we do similar things in our life. Imagine, taking your time to learn that skill that would drastically change your financial life for the better, but you keep procrastinating on learning the skill now, it would definitely catch up to you in the future.
I can tell you from experience, it is very hard to avoid procrastination. You would rather do the most stupid tasks than do the necessary task that needs to be done and that would add much more value to your time and make your day productive. For instance, your major task for the day is to write an article. To sit down and relax your body and mind to write down the article would seem so impossible to you, that you rather go and do some house chores like cleaning the furniture or washing plates or you could go to social media and get lost in it or start watching movies or sleep or feel depressed and sad about life. You would rather do everything else than write that article.
The difference among the rich, average and poor is the ability to not put off tasks and do them immediately. Imagine, doing everything that comes your way, you would definitely be very productive and by being productive every day, you are definitely going to attain success because you are willing to overcome any challenge that comes your way.
The major reason why people put off tasks is that they feel overwhelmed with tasks. The tasks frighten them to their bones, and that's why they rather do any task than do it. Imagine, you are asked to clear out a very dirty room. The task frightens you, and you would start to procrastinate the task because you feel it is too difficult, but the truth is that it isn't, you can get it done in under 30 minutes, but it is your mind that is playing tricks with you.
The task would be easy for you to start, if only you told yourself that, I would only clear out this very small portion of the room today. When you start, you would see that it isn't so difficult after all. Most of the tasks we procrastinate on are not so difficult, it's just our mind playing tricks on us because when we start, it becomes so easy to do and you would start enjoying it. Writing an article is stressful to the mind and you would just don't want to do it, but once you start, you would start enjoying it and it becomes fun.
The best way to avoid procrastination is by tricking your brain, by breaking down the task into smaller tasks which could be easy. You would like to read a book, but when you see that the book has over 400 pages, it kind of discourage you, but if you tell yourself that you just want to read only two pages every day. On the second or third day, you would get carried away with the book, that you would start reading over 20 pages every day. To avoid putting off tasks is by breaking down your tasks into smaller tasks which would be easy for you to carry out.
Although, if you keep procrastinating on a particular task for a long time, try to avoid that task, maybe it's your body and soul telling you not to go into such a task. Imagine, you want to learn a programming language, but you keep procrastinating learning it, it might be an indication that programming isn't what you are supposed to do. You might like designing instead or drawing or writing or singing.
I hope this article has been helpful to you and provided you with some insights into why you are putting off tasks and how to avoid procrastination. Till I come your way tomorrow, try and stop putting off your tasks, by breaking your tasks into smaller tasks that are easier for you to do.
