I have been in the hive community now for around 5 months and immediately saw the great value proposition of the platform but did not understand what creates value in the platform.
What distinguishes Hive from other social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram?
There is the obvious centralization of the other platforms and the lack of control over your account and content.
There is also the censorship of your account and content by the platform owners.
There is also the fact that the majority of users are on these platforms and not so many are on hive in comparison. So if reaching a large audience is a goal of yours, it may be more difficult on hive.
The value proposition for me is that you as either the consumer or creator of content can earn for your participation in the platform instead of mostly just the platform owners like Facebook and Google. You have skin in the game for the success of the platform.
There is also more power in the community to allow different opinions and reduce the censorship and propaganda of the mainstream media.
When looking at hive for the first few times, I thought to myself, what will I read here?
The saying seeing the wood through the trees usually means that you are only able to see the details and not get the bigger picture. Slowly the bigger picture is coming to me. (As with many of those aha moments!)
Slowly I started discovering different content creators and people doing incredible things from all over the hive community and world. From people interested in crypto to people celebrating being alive!
The diversity of people and opinions is so refreshing and interesting. And there is no message underneath telling me if this content is officially approved of or not from the mainstream narratives.
The power of hive lies with the decentralisation and the people. Now I find it hard to go elsewhere for original content and find the mainstream social media platforms crowded and vanilla.
Hive is becoming a transformational journey for me and I am finding it to be a great thing.
