The Crypto Scams and Ponzi Schemes

in #hive-1679222 years ago

A friend of mine called me last night mentioning that someone she knows very well has a very good investment scheme to offer and I would be interested in it. I asked her what type of scheme, she mentioned that it is some Crypto related scheme. She is quite naïve in the Crypto space and has not much idea about how Crypto investments work. She knows that I do my investments in Crypto and hence she thought of suggesting it to me.

I told her ok, I will like to talk to the person. I did not do this with the intention of making investments but I was curious to know what this scheme is like. Because I had heard about this person flaunting out his scheme to others also. I called up the person and he started with bragging about how he had benefitted so many investors by multiplying their money. I asked him did he actually pay them that multiplied investment and he said No. He mentioned that he has promised his clients to give them much more than what he has committed to them earlier. That's a good thought, but I was thinking how was he going to do that. His scheme is, that one makes a minimum investment starting with 500$ and get him 5 more clients and after one year I start earning 5 folds of my invested money every year for a duration of 3 years. I understood he was running a chain marketing scheme, which majority of them are all ponzi schemes. I have been victim of it in the past. I asked him what if I cannot get him 5 clients. Well, he says then I do not get anything, and at the end of 3rd year I get back my 500$.

500$ and getting 5 clients, sounds easy right, but it is not that easy to work it out. And even if you get them, trust me these schemes never pay out. After a year or so everyone disappears. I asked him, where would he be investing this money to give this type of returns and he mentioned he would be doing it in Crypto. Understanding the volatility of the Crypto market, no one can ever guarantee any type of payouts on a regular basis. Either this person is a fraud or has absolutely no understanding of the Crypto market.

I asked him then what if the market crashes down, in such a scenario how is he going to pay as per commitments made. He gave me the silliest answer, saying. He has picked up some good coins and they will never fail, even if the market goes down, they will give returns. I asked him what were those coins, because not that I know of any that would give profits even when the market crashes, and after all it is Crypto, how can one say anything with guarantee. He told me he can't give me the Coin names as that's his trade secret.

I told him Thank you for his time and effort in explaining it to me, but surely, I would not be interested. He tried to convince me, but I softly declined. There are so many such scams happening around. People who do not have Crypto knowledge fall prey for these type of Ponzi schemes. Especially when they see sudden rise in the prices, they feel that this is going to be quick money, but they fail to see the other side of it. Realization only comes when it hits in real and the market crashes.

No one can guarantee any returns in Crypto investments and if anyone is doing that people should understand that it is not genuine and there is some fraud and scam involved in it. One has to be very careful when dealing with such people because they are very good convincers they will show you a very rosy picture, make all false claims and then when their target is achieved, they will vanish, you will never hear from them, nor be able to reach out to them. Many people are still struggling to figure out how to make investments in Crypto as they find it complicated or they do not know where to start from. In such situations such scamsters take advantage and cheat people.

Everyone gets lured with the promise of quick returns. But one needs to understand that Crypto Investments are not a get rich quick schemes. Some people can turn out lucky that after investing at a very low price the prices may suddenly shoot up and it can happen opposite also, that you may invest at a higher price and the market falls. Anything can happen, but keeping those short visions in mind for investments perspective will not help. It can be dooming. It is best to gain self-knowledge, understand how this market operates and then make mindful decisions.

The guy must be very new to the scamming job 😅😅....he made it so obvious that he's a scam.
Well! I'm happy for your friend for bringing it to you and you figured it out.
Its so obvious he was looking for preys

But you will not believe that he still is managing to get people to buy his ponzi scheme. That's like height of stupidity.

Hope your friend will also understand...
The sudden rise price attracts people but without understanding and without proper knowledge at the end people fall in trap...
Thanks for sharing your experience..

Because this is such an awesome post, here is a BBH Tip for you. . Keep up the fantastic work

You should report this guy to the authorities. By letting him run loose, he will scam more naive people

Sadly there is no such law specially here in Oman. It is like he has a proposal and if you are interested you can join, there is no force, so it is all about personal will and the person will give you a set of terms and conditions which will keep him safe in all ways.

Yes this is true.

Uh, don't tell me about those, I witnessed so many people being scammed out of their money I can't count them all. The funniest thing is that those people were in crypto for a while, so I can understand that sometimes a scam is well hidden and not so obvious. Hopefully, everyone will secure their assets and avoid those.

It's all about money. Everyone wants to make a quick buck, but it never works like that. Majority of the people still believe that Crypto is a get quick rich scheme. Thank you for the tokens

Quite thoughtful of your friend giving you info about the so called crypto investment, at least you can tell your friend now what to invest in and what not to put money into .

I did advise her, now it's her choice if she want to listen to me or him. She is too lured by his offer

It reminds me of a friend who lend me $100 in August last year. Though the market is down, after six months, I returned her $100 with 12% interest as promised.

That's good of you to be honest, else a lot of people borrow money and then disappear.

And because of that, she shared it with her friend who wanted to lend me $200.00 in just 3 months. I told her that I can only give 2% interest per month.

trust me these schemes never pay out

Very well said

Though not only in crypto these schemes exist in other ways

Like my mom is victim in her life when she meet a property dealer who said her to give this amount he'll buy property & will sell at higher rate after few months you'll get high returns

She believed & guess what later the guy was gone with her and many other people investment.

We are only responsible for our own investments and should never trust in any ponzi scheme in crypto when it's too volatile.

Hope your friend will stay out from this.

In past I too have been victim of such ponzi schemes, they are so luring at times that you just cannot resist and want to take a chance. You are very right, we are responsible for our own investments and we should pick up wisely on where we want to put our money.

should never trust in any ponzi scheme in crypto when it's too volatile.

Ponzi schemes should never be trusted in any circumstances. They are all scams.

Exactly, can't disagree with it anymore

Hello @nainaztengra I hope you were able to warn your friend of this.
6 years ago two friends invitedme me to a group that called itself "the flower of abundance". That they were given money to use as they wished.
When I asked where the money came from, they said that each member's contribution... It only took a coupie more questions like that to realize that something was wron.

Not knowing about the Ponzie scheme yet, I tool them No and that they should get out.

Thanks for sharing!

The names of these schemes are very attractive that is one way of luring people into it. I did warn my friends and other people I know who were getting pulled into this. Well sadly some of them did not listen to me, but then can't do much it is their personal choice.
Good you did not get into the talks of those people and invested anything.
