Few hours ago I decided to check out my telegram mails since it's been months since I opened telegram. Not very surprising, a bunch of obviously scam groups added me to their channels with most of them promising to trade your coins or money to get a good return.
The admins pay some users to make comments that favours the channel and make the channel look legit. Sometimes they pay to get bots to spam the group with testimonies of success.
The groups are so well done, it's hard to believe it's a scam. With over 11,000 members and more than 5,000 members giving testimonies of success any young mind would be easily deceived.
Telegram isn't the only social media with millions of scam channels and users, let's look into Twitter.
Twitter is one of the biggest and popular social media in the world with over 200million users. Such amount of users means are large amount of scam accounts.
Some of them promise a false giveaway just to attract traffic to their pages and websites. Some find a way to Get your account details just by clicking on the dubious links sent to you.
How to identify potential internet scams?
stay away from strange accounts
This is the most common method of internet scam, this accounts monitor your social media activities and could also get hold of what you seem to be persistent on then send strange dms(messages) that is closely related to activities.
Exit strange or dubious channels you were added to.
There are thousands of channels out there that promise to earn you money if you invest in their schemes. Some would have to do with trading cryptocurrencies and forex, while others have to do with betting odds.
