Is 20% APR savings For everyone?

in #hive-1679223 years ago

Hello Hivers!.. Greetings from here!

Recently, a post by @twicejoy on effect of HBD on Hive prompted me to finally make a post on my thoughts as regards the recently increased HBD savings APR to 20%

I'm a new Hiver and there are still quite a number of things I'm yet to understand and come to terms with.

HBD savings used to be part of it. Before the increment, I would go to my wallet to claim some rewards and check my available tokens and I'll look at the usual message written beside the HBD value that says "Moving HBD to savings will generate a 12% APR as defined by the witnesses". This was before the recent increase in %APR.

I wondered several times what it actually means to increase at a rate of 12% APR.
I also wondered if I could withdraw the savings at anytime.
I wondered who the said witnesses are and most of all, I wondered if it was risky or not. Like I said, I was pretty Naïve.

At the end, I decided to just ignore that part of my wallet until I get a clearer understanding.

Several weeks later, I started seeing posts about the possible increase in percentage APR and if it was a good move for the Hive blockchain. It was a debate that I was looking forward to the result.

After a short while, the news was everywhere that the witnesses finally increased the percentage APR first to 15% and then finally to 20%. Of course, at this time I already understood who the witnesses are and their role in the Hive blockchain.

Quite a number of people were happy with this development and it was in their posts and comments that I finally understood what that part of my Hive wallet was about. I wondered why I didn't have savings before then and I quickly transferred some of my HBD (very little though) to savings so I could partake in this increase as well.

Being a New Hiver, I've got very little HBD and so I was only able to send little to savings as well.
Afterwards I noticed a countdown and an increase of course everyday... it's been almost a month now and the increase is still not up to 1 HBD!

Can you imagine that?... I was only able to get 0.123 HBD!

20% is a lot but is it really for everyone?

I mean, if you have over 50 HBD in your savings, then maybe you would get a reasonable return with 20% APR.

However, the Newbies like us are not really taking part in the juicy investment opportunity because we don't have enough that can produce significant return in a short time.

Now what's the way forward?
I'm really interested in the answer to this part because I'm already considering removing the little I have in the savings and just wait till I have enough to invest, since I don't really get an obvious increase anyways.

I'm sure this might be the case for other Hivers who are quite new in the game and have very little to invest.

The question is: how do we take advantage of this opportunity? Or are there other opportunities that could really favour people with low HBD or HP?

I would really love to hear your thoughts in the comment section.

Thanks so much for reading through..

See you in the next post!

Just move some over to the savings and low amounts are fine. It's all calculated based on APR so it might just take longer to see the interest tick up but you can still collect it each month.

The way forward is to post good content. Keep at it. Stack. Stack. And more stack. Send to savings. Convert some hive to HBD. Then stack again.

That's how you will get ahead.

Thanks so much🙏 @akumagai

Welcome.

For now HP should be your target because it gives you enough resource credit to interact with the chain.
But 50 HBD is not bad for a start

I'm still relatively new to Hive myself, but I've been able to build up a small but decent stash of HBD. Some of it I just bought - I'm not rich, but I have a small budget each month that I use to buy crypto.

But then I realised that the best way may be to buy HIVE and power it up, instead of buying HBD. The more Hive Power you've got, the more rewards you get back, and part of the rewards for posting comes as HBD. So I take the view that the important thing is to enjoy the community, keep posting, and let the Hive Power build up, which in turn builds up the HBD.

I'm by no means a prolific poster (I manage about 10-15 posts a month, fitted around my "real" life), but I reckon to make about 15-20HBD a month in rewards, and with interest on top it's building up very nicely :)

Thanks sooo much @alonicus
I'll keep this in mind💯
