Important metric
Everyone is following the price of Bitcoin closely, and in consequence also the total market capitalisation. But not everyone is also calculating in the amount of Bitcoin that is lost forever.
Glassnode has calculated that a staggering amount of 7814586 Bitcoin hasn’t moved in their wallets over the last 5 years. Most of these coins are probably lost for good. Because of loss of the private keys or loss of the hardware wallet. That is a total amount of 700 billion dollars worth of Bitcoin that can’t be moved or sold in any way, e.g. lost for good!
This is a very important metric that is mostly ignored or forgotten about. But 29 % of the total coins that are available is a lot! And it actually makes the value of the in reality available Bitcoin higher than it is right now!
Morale of this story is, always keep your private keys safe, and preferrably both in digital and in paper form. So you always can be sure you can access them!
Sincerely,
