Market is not ready
CEO Stephan Winkelmann stated it on Monday night at the headquarters of Lamborghini in Italy. A full electric Lamborghini won’t be riding on the roads befor 2029. The market is not ready for it yet. All new Lamborghini’s will have a hybrid engine, but no full electric car, yet.
With that news, Lamborghini follows Bentley, another luxury brand, which postponed their first full electric vehicle with 5 years.
More demand in China, but…
The demand for electric vehicles is growing, especially in China. But it is sloping down in Europe. And in the Middle-East the demand for luxury cars with combustion engines stays very high. There is virtually no interest for electric luxury cars from that region. And the Middle-East is the biggest spender when it comes to luxury and sports cars.
Major split
It shows that the electrification of the car park is moving at very different paces all over the world. It makes things a lot more complicated. Especially for the car manufacterers, they really have to choose a segment, which can potentially turn out to be the wrong choice in the long run!
Interesting what the future will bring…
Sincerely,
