Burj Azizi
We all have seen the Burj Khalifa, world's tallest building, located in Dubai. It is one of the incredible projects with which Dubai has put itself on the map. The biggest airport in the world, a wintersport dome in the desert, artificial islands in the form of a palm, the tallest building with a whopping 828 meters, etc...
Now Dubai's investment group, Azizi Developments, thought it was time for another grand project, the second largest building in the world, called, the Burj Azizi, standing tall with 725 meters above sea level. The building also will have a few records. With the highest dance club in the world, at the 126th floor, and the highest hotel room in the world, on the 118th floor. The tower will host a seven star hotel, and multiple pools and a vertical shopping mall, spread out over 7 floors.
Megalomane
I know lots of people that have visited Dubai, and they were all impressed by it. I have never been there, so I don't really have an opinion about something I haven't visited in real life. But, I do have questions about the conditions of the workers that will build the project. Most of them will be foreigners from Pakistan and Afghanistan. The past has shown that they don't get the best pay, and definitely not the best working conditions. So I really hope Dubai will have learnt from the past, and will give this people honest pay for their work, and decent circumstances to work and live in.
Some will find all of this megalomane, and a waste of money. You could say that, but the past has shown that their investments have been worth the while and attract lots of tourists to the country and the city. Which is the end goal of all this projects. To leave a city worth the visit when the oil dries up, or when the world has gone to "zero carbon". In my opinion it is a smart plan by Dubai and the United Arab Emirates. Even though I am more of a nature kind of tourist. So you will probably not spot me in Dubai any time soon!
Sincerely,
