2,5 Billion EUR prize money

Yesterday the league phase started of the UEFA Champions League. 36 teams from the elite of Europe are striding for the cup, but in the first place for the millions that are thrown at them in this competition.

A starting fee of 35 million euros, 2,1 million for a win in the league phase, 700k for a draw. Another 15 million if you qualify for 1/8 finals… and so on!

And then there is the market pool, the bigger the name of the club the higher the cheque. Clubs like Juventus, Real Madrid and FC Barcelona easily get a 100 million just for participating.

If you think of all of this, it is clear insanity. Such numbers just for entering the competition is nuts… But these numbers just get higher by the year.
