As a little child then I have always been happy when I am given money because I get to buy things I want and once it finishes, my mood changes and I will run to meet my dad for another one. If I am not given, I become more angrier and disobedient until my want is met which is money.

All we think of is that money can make one happy. Do you think that is true?

What if I may ask; does money buy happiness? If I were to be asked this question before now, I would say Yes. There is an entangled relationship between money and happiness which makes people conclude that money is happiness truly.

Critically looking at society today, one would agree that socioeconomic status is a factor that determines an individual's happiness to money, and this is quite unsatisfactory to characterize or attribute money as the only factor and determinant of happiness.

There is a straight relationship between money and happiness. However, to some extent, money does not have an effect on an individual's happiness.

Take, for instance, an employee who has the highest-ranking income in a workplace tends to be much happier than the other who has the lowest-ranking income.

Let's come down to Hive, an individual, after several hours working on a post to make it stand out when once published and receives huge upvotes from big whales will be much happier than when he or she has low votes on their previous posts.

Money only facilitates the things that bring happiness but it does not bring happiness itself.

Money and Happiness.

Since we have generally perceived money to be the ultimate source of happiness, many people keep working without resting during the day and night so that they can earn more money to satisfy their needs. The more money they earn, the happier they get to meet their needs.

This is why we see how people devote all their time to work rather than spending time for their families, themselves, and in particular "health." Although money brings happiness and makes an individual live a satisfying life through spending to satisfy their needs, people also derive pleasure in getting more money.

Life becomes happier when a person has one or two sources where they work and earn more income. Otherwise, working all the time without a standard income leads to unhappiness and loss of morale of working with or among other workers. Hence, money is just a motivating factor and a source of pleasure in meeting the needs of the family. As a result, there is a linear relationship between money and happiness.

Money can have a direct relationship with happiness but up to an established level of satiation where money does not affect happiness.

According to Albor (2009), happiness has a combination of seven factors that makes money not to be the only source of it, namely; family relationship, community, social affiliation, financial institution, work, personal freedom and values.

Some people have a poor understanding of the relationship between money and happiness which makes them think that money is the only means to gain happiness through satisfying one's human needs that money can buy, the truth is that money cannot buy everything that determines happiness.

A wealthy man still would not have happiness when he is not at rest thinking and worrying about the inappropriate behaviour of his only son whom he plans to put in place as the next controller of his business. This is why we must not think that the solutions to many problems we encounter in life lie in money because it pays for our education, house rent, food, healthcare etc.
