Hello Hive,
Truth be told, starting up on Hive with no background in its kind of interface requires handheld guidance. One I never had, any regrets though, I learnt from the best teacher–experience.
This is my First post on Hive using this account but this is not the first Post on Hive. My official name is Nwachukwu Chukwubuikem Israel but you can call me raptorrahel.
I’ll be dropping a link to my first account. There you will find my full introductory post.
Dear Newbee of the Hive,
I want to firstly, welcome you to Hive and her ecosystem. Hive if I must simply put is content for the people, by the people and of the people. Not only is this blockchain a social contract. obviously there is room for our developers as usual via dapps, which can be created by anyone with the skill to. But here not only devs are kings every content creator is.
The qualitative beauty of Hive is its content decentralization; Hive blockchain is built such that Consumer-focused content and works are funded through proposal systems. When you put up content on hive within a 7day period your content gets monetized depending on the reaction of your audience – upvotes or downvotes. This is beautiful because the priority will be focused on creating valuable content and not anything else.
So, my fellow newbie, it is what you thought, Hive is the honey pot you imagined it to be, and much more.
But, be warned my friend, ‘Decentralization is a double-edged sword.’ While you are given independence through web 3.0 Hive provides. When you make mistakes there are no erasers here. I know I might be sounding scary or discouraging but I think people are not well aware of much care they need to be.
Experience is indeed the best teacher but it comes at the expense of a scar some are nice to show off some are not. I have one myself, some of you may ask, ‘so soon?’. I hope my scar pays off that following that nobody makes, the same mistakes again after reading my account.
After my long panting for Hive, I finally created my account using ecency in September last year. It took weeks before I garnered the courage to begin writing an introductory post as I consider myself an introvert, and I was concerned a lot about what was necessary to share and what wasn't. During that time I tried creating a hive wallet, which I would link to my account.
I downloaded a keychain extension on my chrome and began registration. When I was asked for my private keys, I knew to look for them on my account. Before now I understood the concept of private keys. I recalled the user interfaces of apps like trust wallet has features that allowed you to view your private keys on the already open account. I thought it was the same thing and I tried all the keys if found on my keys/permission feature of my Hive blog. But nothing worked. I assumed it was just a glitch, maybe when I’m done and ready to make a post I will take a good look at it.
It was on the 9th of April this year. I finally decided to post my long written introductory post and become active on Hive. It was at this moment that my mess got real.
I had been trying to open my account on my mobile phone. But each time I put the keys I am asked to put, at least I thought it was, it never worked. My mind raised a red flag but I neglected it with the hope that since the account can be opened on my system because I selected ‘keep me logged in when I first logged in. There must be a way to recover any lost Key or Passwords.
I went on to make my first introductory post and in 18hours I had over $40 and 123 upvotes. Then it hit me. All of a sudden an awareness came that I messed up.
Now, this was my mistake, when you first create an account in Hive your Private keys: Owner, active, memo, posting and master keys will be generated on time. You will be asked to download it and store it safely yourself. These Private keys were what I had missing. And Hive explicitly warns that lost private keys cannot be recovered. All the keys you will find while your account is open specifically in your keys/permissions menu are all Public keys.
Luckily for me, the OCD community commented on my, post and dropped a link to her discord server. In the faint hope that this mess can be fixed, I scouted for more discord channels. And I also came across The Indian Community. There I met the likes of @derangedvisions, @bhattg.
After I asked questions and got my answers. It was clear to me that I needed to create a new account. But I did not want to give in just yet. I had just started on a good note. My First post rallied 123 upvotes and $42 “common on you cannot just let this slide…” I thought to myself. After a long internal dialogue, I decided to find a way. And I did, at least I thought I did. I found an article detailing a website where one could recover his or her master key or password.
For a start, my browser refused to open the website for security reasons. This raised a red flag but the boy was desperate. I brought my walls down and had the site opened. After my surveys and attempt, they were never even successful. The whole thing was looking fishy to me. Seeing my attempts weren’t even successful I began rethinking. I feared that this site that could help me recover my password will be left with the same keys that were supposed to be private? This question raised a chain of questions in my mind and I finally resorted to being rational with my decision.
I did not want to believe it but, it became so obvious that I needed to create another account. This time I made sure that prudence was my guide. I can carefully say that this Account won’t be going down anytime soon.
As @macchiata best Listed them on OCD's rules menu.
