Financial Lessons Of A Lifetime As An Adult

in #hive-1679222 years ago

Growing up watching our parents provide for us and we see them as super heroes because they always make the magic happen for us, I always wondered how they did it. My Dad made sure we didn’t lack the basic things of life, they were always made available, but the extravagant things of life was unreachable so we always stayed on our financial lane. I used to think he was being too harsh on us because he sometimes placed limits on what we get. Here I am after more than 10 years later understanding why my dad did what he did. I have always wanted to get myself a lot of things when I was younger, I promised myself I would get them myself when I become older since my dad didn’t get me everything.

Here I am now older, not still getting them because as an adult, I have to sacrifice my wants for my needs. The only want I got myself was a MacBook I have always wanted, I needed a laptop but I wanted a MacBook, so I got myself one. Aside that, my life has practically been just not getting everything I want, even though I can afford them, this can be painful. We keep pushing the day we do things because we believe that by the time it gets to the new date, we will be more prepared for it than the last time. But guess what? Sometimes we still don’t get prepared, but we still make the magic happen in our own little way by making sure we get our bills paid.

Today is my mom’s birthday, she is turning 52 years today, I had a great plan figured out, this month was supposed to be great financially, so I was relaxed, earlier this month, I decided to start a new business to support my source of income, because having multiple sources of income is one way to survive as an adult. Forgetting my mum’s birthday, I invested in this new business, it’s not been so rosy at the beginning, but I expected it so I didn’t have high hopes or expectations. Then my mum asked about how I was going to celebrate her birthday, there I was, thinking I had all the time in the world to figure something out before her birthday, it’s her birthday and I don’t have anything ready yet.

I had to sell some of coins, did some trading and figured a way to get some extra cash so I could do what I promised her, so she doesn’t get disappointed. After doing it, I felt so proud because I just watched myself perform those magic I used to watch my dad perform when I was much more younger. But how was I able to do this? My dad always made the magic happened without begging for money outside or borrowing, but he did that through his investments and savings. With crypto I have been opportune to make multiple investments and saved enough for times like this when I can make the magic happen. Mind you, this is the bear season, imagine how bountiful it would have been during the Bull season.

Oh wow, crypto is really something. I’m glad you were able to celebrate her birthday, I bet she’d be really happy!

It's only when we grow up do we come to understand what our parents did and what they were trying to teach us. The theme of sacrifice is always present. With some discipline, we can learn to focus on our needs and temporarily forget about our wants.

Nicely said, learning everyday and understanding the concept especially when my dad says “don’t worry you will understand when you get older”.

I also heard that statement numerous times from my parent. It's now that I'm beginning to understand what it truly means.

LEO Power Up Day - October 15, 2022

This whole content is so relatable, those who understand their parent's capability in their childhood and postpone their desires without any chaos are sure to better understand the ways of life, I think this is a great maturity. Just like you, I have completed one of my desires I couldn't fulfill, well to be honest I would say I was enough lucky to have my personal computer in class six, but then my interest grew in higher gaming rigs but those were a dream that came true now through myself.

You sold coins or whatever, I would say you made your mom happy and that's incomparable to any assets in the whole world. Why are we chasing after money? Obviously to keep ourselves happy, right? When it comes to my family's happiness I also perform anything to make them happy because in the end they are the reason we are surviving, matters the most.

It was a good read.
Have a great day.
