Seven Years On The Hive Blockchain
Yesterday (01/017/2025) while scrolling my blog (@rentmoney) and the blogs of others I just so happen to notice something. That something was the fact that I have been part of this amazing and interesting community known as Hive since January of 2018. The current date is January of 2025. Making this month my Hive Birthday. That is a total of seven years since I first created my account. No small amount of time to continuously or even sparingly spend somewhere. Within that time frame I have went MIA for months at a time. It's likely if we were to tally all the consecutive weeks/months I went with little interaction it could total a good two years of that seven. Balance is the key to everything and its ok to take time away from things to return with a fresh new outlook or to continue business as usual. Of course my thoughts didn't stop there. I also pondered my success or lack there of in regards to my blog. Success now there's an interesting word. How do we define it. There is multiple ways of course. More on that later but for now I'd like to share some more of my not so random thoughts.
Success What Is It?
Other thoughts such as reviewing my Hive / HBD holdings and weighing them against "success". Thoughts such as having the mindset that such holdings is a direct reflection of my growth here on Hive. Such is also a reflection of the support my blog gives to the blockchain as a whole compared to someone who might continuously cashout any earnings. I then factored in my other Hive Holdings such as my Splinterland collection (NFT's , SPS, LAND, Ect.). The last thing I pondered is am I supporting the growth of others. This last one is an important one. I concluded that at the very least I have tried to. Such actions as participating and supporting upcoming apps either through delegation or asset purchasing (Holozing being a clear example) would fall under this category. Another being the creation of small but meaningful giveaways that create safe havens for an easy interaction. Too often us O.G.'s of the Hive platform forget how hard it might be to start here. Even more so if you are someone who has stumbled on this amazing place from WEB2 wondering around not sure what to do. When such people stumble upon a giveaway post that only requires a comment its an in to stress free interaction. I once was that WEB2 user lost in the world of WEB3. Such giveaways are frowned on by some but there's a place for everything and everything has its place.
Success Did Rentmoney Accomplish It
So based on my above thoughts did Rentmoney accomplish "Success" with my hive profile. Well if we look strictly at the financial side of things using only the main currencies of the Hive Blockchain (HIVE/ HBD holdings) the answer becomes a clear No. I have been on the Hive blockchian for seven years and only have 16,500 Hive Tokens Staked. Considering I have never powered down to sell for fiat (Yuck) that isn't that great of a number. My HBD Holdings are at roughly $2,000 HBD. Again not a large amount when compared to the seven years being on the chain. Rentmoney also holds roughly 2,500 liquid Hive and about 1000 Swap.Hive as well. Even with those factored in the answer is still a clear "No". However luckily that is not how Rentmoney factors financial success here on the Hive Blockchain as there are many working parts. Including but not limited to any second layer tokens held from communities like LeoFinance or assets held from the many apps built on Hive (Splinterlands, Holozing ect.). If I factor in those held assets then the answer becomes a clear Yes. I was here for the NFT boom and Splinterland assets were at an all time high. For anyone that was a holder of Splinterland assets at that time you became a financial success here on HIVE. If you held and didn't sell during that time to later experience the downside: that doesn't take away that past success. It just means you showed support by holding your Hive Blockchain assets. Factoring that in I would conclude that my hive profile @rentmoney indeed was and potentially still is a financial success with allot of upside to go.
Financial Success Isn't The End Goal
Of course above we talked about Financial success but that's not nearly as important as activity associated with ones blog or eventual concluding message. To run a blog one needs viewers. If you don't have viewers then its more of a personal diary than a social blog. This leads me to my definition of success on the Hive Blockchain as it pertains to ones blog profile. For me success on the blogging side of things isn't the amount earned but the amount of interactions one can generate. The amount of views one can get on their created content. In the WEB2 world being successful at those things will lead to financial success because of things like well placed ads that generate income for the author per view/click and impression. Here on WEB3 that isn't always the case do to the fact we can't attach ads to our blog spot. Instead we get rewarded via our viewers who interact with our blog by the means of voting on it. An interesting system indeed. This means that trying to use rewards as a base to determine if one's Hive Blog is successful is a poor measurement. One can be getting 10X the views, comments and interactions as someone who might only be getting a handful of views but more rewards due to the fact whales noticed them and not you yet. That's just the nature of things here on Hive. So don't be down in the dumps if you aren't being rewarded for your content. Know that rewards are not the be all and end all to running a successful blog.
Personal Success: Mental Health
Here is something I don't see talked about allot. Blogging can take a toll on ones mental health. Both positively and negatively. If your blog or anything else for that matter is taking a toll on your mental health its time to take a break. I'm lucky enough to be on the opposite end of that spectrum. Blogging helps my mental health and therefore my overall general health. This trumps all else so even if there was no interaction on my blog, even if no rewards were attainable, Success would still be there. To conclude I would have to say that my time here on the Hive Blockchain was well spent. I attained knowledge about blogging, content creating, blockchains, cryptocurrency and many other things here on HIVE that I likely wouldn't of attained elsewhere. I was almost a complete newbie to all those aforementioned things before coming here. Hive has expanded my knowledge and skill set of all that and much more while allowing me to interact with other bloggers who's blogs I routinely visit for a multitude of reasons. If that isn't success I don't know what is. I look forward to seeing what the next seven years might detail. I have a feeling that the landscape of cryptocurrency is very close to exploding. I'll be here on the Hive Blockchain posting away when it does.
Thanks or reading. See you at our next post :)
