What Are Experiments?
Experiments are your city’s forbidden alchemy—a chance to turn citizens with negative stats or no tax refund into more useful entities.
For a cost of 200 SIM per experiment, you can perform strange and mystical transformations on your citizens.
The Science (or Witchcraft!) Behind It:
Experiments are a chance to get a rare form of a particular citizen card. However, the chance of this is low, because 99.99%-95% of experiments could end up in getting a** Sick Citizen** card. The chance of a different outcome of the experiment will depend on the citizens used and the number of Experimental Labs in the city.
The cost of the experiment is 200 SIM per citizen.
Some citizen cards cannot be used for experiments - Young Citizen, Student, Student (debt), Sick Citizen and Retired Citizen.
Brewing the Perfect Potion—Who to Experiment On
Sacrificing the Cursed Citizens: Addicts, Homeless, Criminal, Gambler
Citizens with negative stats (those who drain your resources or popularity) are perfect candidates for experimentation.
Ordinary citizens with no tax refund are also ripe for transformation consider their market value before making the sacrifice as combines have made certain citizens more valuable now.
Ordinary Citizens with no tax refund: Worker, Artist, Scientist
If you have plural cards with 2 population consider their market value because Experiments will reduce that population stat to 1.
I recommend listing them while the prices of population are trending upwards.
In other words, send those SINGLE citizens to the lab, and watch their fate unfold!
What Happens After the Transformation?
There are 5 types of citizens that player can get from experiments:
Super Citizen: Has 1 population, 40 popularity, -5 income and gives you 10 tax refund.
Super Criminal: Has 1 population, 20 popularity, 20 income and gives you 5 tax refund.
Super Soldier: Has 1 population, -20 popularity, -20 income, gives you 20 shares in war and gives you 10 tax refund.
Super Cop: Has 1 population, -10 popularity, -10 income and gives you 10 tax refund.
Sick Citizen: Has 1 population, -3 popularity, -3 income and gives you 1-3 tax refund (depends on the President's decision).
When to Experiment
DO NOT TAKE EXPERIMENTS LIGHTLY FRIENDS
Use experiments wisely to improve your city’s efficiency by turning negative citizens into tax contributors.
Consider saving up SIM for a batch of experiments to maximize your chances of summoning a Super Citizen.
Risk and Reward
While the chance of summoning a Super Citizen is slim, even the Sick Citizens are valuable in their own right, providing small but reliable tax refunds.
Always remember to keep an eye on your social support stat that can offset the tax refund as Sick Citizens have one of the highest social supports in the game.
Recent changes to social support left @zeruxanime with a zero-income city going from a top 200 income so now he is having to rebalance his surplus of Sick Citizens.
Not to discourage folks from trying this out for themselves though because you just need to pay attention to what you are doing and keep an eye on your stats every step of the way.
Afterall the more experiments you perform, the greater your chances of pulling off a Supernatural Miracle!
Frighteningly Good Outcomes
I recently ran some September Experiments on 7 lucky citizens.
As per usual the regular old Sick Citizen marched out of the Experiment.
Then I noticed one very muscular Super Soldier with glowing cybernetic eyes, pulsating with power. His body is enhanced with gleaming metallic armor, circuits running along his skin, and energy coursing through his veins.

A Super Soldier was born on a mid September day!
As we rejoice and thank @gerber and the other gods of dcity we must remember our worker and homeless who bear the sacrifice.
