He forgot his signature

Life's reality at a certain age

He was a banker and established this branch and served here for more than a decade. There was no digital process at his time, so being a manager, he had privilege to open as many accounts as he would wish. Of late, I am trying to consolidate all his accounts now, because nobody else in our family even knew how many accounts he has in each branch, where he served. Apart from this branch, he also served twice as a manager in the branch at our native place and owned more than 30 accounts. Many accounts did not even have much funds, but they were open because they were related to some fixed deposits which has later been withdrawn. Being a staff account, they were not closed (but marked inoperative by the digital system) so I have now closed them, keeping only a few accounts which are active. And during this process, I came across with a very interesting charity he was doing, which I will share on a separate post.

Since we had to visit to the doctor (60 km away) for Mom's consultation, I planned to take both of them as leaving him alone at home is risky. And at the same time, we planned to go to this branch to verify his account details. We were happy to find out that, he closed many accounts here when he was active and had only few accounts left open, some of them being fixed deposits, that would mature in 2026. There were no known staffs from his time, because he served in another bank named United Bank of India, that has been merged to PNB and staffs from his time have either retired or being transferred to other branch as part of the usual process of getting transferred in 3-4 years, applicable for officers. However, after we told about him, they were happy to assist and asked for the standard KYC process to make the accounts operative. When I filled the forms, and got his signature, it did not match the bank records, and the staffs told us that earlier he used to do short signature which is on the bank records and now he is doing a full signature. Usually bank people won't tell this much details, but since he is a former staff, and considering his age, they advised to ask him to remember and retry his short signature. Few retries and it still did not match, so they advised to fill some more forms, requesting for a signature change, which has to be now approved by the head office. Since they also wanted some more proofs, which we did not carry, I have brought the documents and will submit later, but this is going to be a memory of my life reminding me how things can change as we become older, so much so that, one can forget his signature.

He was quite happy to visit this branch, as he created this and we never had a photo of him at this branch. When the staffs offered tea, he remembered that one has to go and bring tea from outside, as there was no kitchen attached to the branch. So he still have some memories, which is promising.

Coming back, he was a bit disappointed on himself to forget but then we convinced him that it is quite natural and there is nothing to worry, and we will get his full signature approved, to operate the account. Driving back, I was thinking what's in store for us in future...... Now only it's difficult to remember many things.

And not to mention, we had a delicious family lunch at Aangan, Saheed Nagar, one of our favorite restaurant, and Dad loved the fish - good food and sleep - that's what matters most to him now.

Hello dearest sir, it's touching to read about your journey in consolidating your father's accounts. Aging brings unique challenges, but the memories shared during your visit to the bank show the beauty in cherishing the past. We all want to be blessed with good age like yours 🥰

some loving memories for us.

I'm glad they are dearest sir

Going in the old branch, his memories were refreshed...enjoyed reading it.

Yeah, all these problems come with age but these are normal. 😄

Visiting the branch will remind him of how agile he used to be back then. He’s indeed a great man and deserves to be celebrated
It’s sad to see that he forgot his signature but this can happen to anyone since he’s now old
I hope he lives much longer

I hope he lives much longer

Thank you so much.

It pains to see your dad who was once a banker in this condition even if he is old. But know that your dad was an influential man and will still be.

😉✌️ sounds like he's got his priorities right!

:) his expression is always so stalwark. (is that the right word.. kinda serious and strong will)

i want to be 'stubborn' like him when i grow up.

I wonder how he manages to sleep for so much time.

😂🤣 yeah.. i can only sleep so long before my body aches.

It's good that he still remembered the tea. It might be good if he visits a lot of places that were a big part of his life to keep those memories strong. For the signature, there might be some documents at home where he used a shorter signature. Seeing it might make him remember.

Excelente historia del amigo banquero, mis saludos desde Venezuela amigo hiver.

This is a touching and perceptive look back at the memories and events associated with your father's long and devoted career as a banker. It is heartwarming to witness how you are paying tribute to his memory by painstakingly merging his accounts and handling the financial procedures with such consideration.

but this is going to be a memory of my life reminding me how things can change as we become older, so much so that, one can forget his signature.

Yes, that's true sir, that is why I always prefer full signatures without any fancy ones particularly when it comes to banking and finance-related things and land record documents.

Even our full signature might not match 30 years down the line and in old age it could further deviate.

So he still have some memories, which is promising

A wave of nostalgia must have rippled.

I wish good health for your father and mother sir. And you are the best son......🙏🙏🙏.

Have a great day.

Jai Jagannath

The memories still look so fresh and fresh actually I must confess. It is awesome
