Source An image from the James Webb Space Telescope. This is a star forming region called NGC 3324 in the Carina nebula.
I found these images so beautiful and so inspiring. After the past two years and our ridiculous UK politics, it was wonderful to have new worlds to contemplate as I reached my fifth anniversay on Hive. I am a little late posting: the actual anniversary was somewhere around 4:30pm (BST) last Sunday, 17 July 2022, but what's a few days in the continuum of space and time?
I am in my penultimate week before taking a break from work for the whole of August and it feels great. I've been lucky to have employment and an income through the whole of the pandemic and since. I work with 27 charities which provide services across London to women surviving sexual and domestic violence and abuse.
We all worked all through the pandemic. My role during the lockdown was co-ordinating weekly intelligence meetings where we gathered information about what was happening to women in London, shared practical solutions to the challenges of moving all our services online, and fed into the pan-London forums and authorities who were attempting to continue to provide services to Londoners.
Still working remotely, and in and out of lockdown, we went into twelve months of multiple rounds of applying for the funding for our services, together with responding to consultations by the Mayor of London on Policing and Crime and the Violence Against Women and Girls Strategy. This was in the context of widespread problems in the Metropolitan Police Service, leading to the exit of the Commissioner of Police and, most recently, seeing the Service placed in special measures.
Today, as I approach my holiday, we still have all our members, every one of our charities has survived this difficult two years and continued to provide services. We have won, for the third time, our anchor funding and we continue to deliver a Ā£25 million programme of community based services to over 30,000 women every year through a collaborative, decentralised approach.
This work has coincided almost exactly with my time on Hive. It is interesting to look at both experiences in that timeline. People who went to Krakow in Poland in 2018 may remember me trying to find ways to get the charities I was working with to adopt this amazing blockchain technology and all the new opportunities it provides from governance to abundance. I failed miserably: I was too far ahead of the curve š.
Source Here we all are in the Salt Mines in Poland, 2018. I'm in the picture with @slobberchops and @bingbabe. Can spot us?
There's something about being in the Salt Mines: old technology meeting new, this amazing world more than a thousand feet underground with huge cathedral galleries, a juxtaposition to the Carina nebula pictured above. I discovered cherry vodka, amongst other important things. Let me know in the comments if you spot yourself or anyone else in the picture. I continue to be entranced by Hive. Whenever it starts feeling lackadaisical, something or someone happens. Thinking about the big picture and why I bother, these extracts from recent posts bring me hope and excitement: ... for the first time in our history, the entire economy has a competitor through blockchain and tokenization solutions. This means that there is going to be a tug of war with the outcome of control versus quality of life being fought between centralized and decentralized economics. This battle however needn't be as bloody as the revolutions of the past, because they will be determined by usage, not violence. Source The undercurrent flows on, relentless, pervasive ... I do not view crypto as a risk-on asset used to get rich. I view it as the only possible solution to the systemic failure known as modern society. I view it as the only way to scale up governance structures and the only way to stop absolutely corrupted entities from consolidating all the power in the world. Hive specifically provides permissionless jobs that anyone can participate in. Does it need a lot of work? Sure, but the worst things get the more incentive we have to put everything we have into the future of the economy. Source And for the avoidance of doubt ... Another bear market is just another folded layer of steel as we forge this Katana of Crypto ... Source This is what I find really exciting.
On to more prosaic things ...
On Sunday, on my anniversary, I powered up to 66,667 HP - two thirds of the way to my 100,000 HP goal ... š I should hit my target in January 2025. That depends on the bear market, though, it could be sooner š.
Why? I want to build things here. We've hardly started.
Looking forward to the next five years š.
