This was my first large Crown, the "Jubilee Head" of Queen Victoria. It was a gift by one of the lady stackers on steemit Hive.
The reverse show St George slaying a dragon.
The dragon, so the tale goes, demanded tribute from the villagers at first. They began offering a human sacrifice once a year when they ran out of animals and trinkets to sacrifice to the dragon. Up until a princess was chosen as the next offering, the villagers found this acceptable. The princess selected as the following offering is then saved by the saint.
Queen Victoria's reign of 63 years and 216 days is known as the Victorian era, and was longer than that of any previous British monarch. Her great grand daughter, Elizabeth II surpassed that in 2015.
At birth, Victoria was fifth in the line of succession after the four eldest sons of George III. She inherited the throne aged 18 after her father's (Edward, the fourth son of King George III) three elder brothers died without surviving legitimate heir.
