When one thinks of Koalas, one thinks Australia. It is iconic of Australia. They thrive in eucalyptus leaves and therefore live in the eucalyptus forest of Australia. It is their habitat and food.
How appropriate that the Koala depicted in tis coin is slumbering! They sleep all day when they are not eating! I read somewhere that they sleep about 18 to 20 hours a day! That's because eucalyptus is toxic, so the koala’s digestive system has to work hard to digest it, breaking down the toxins and extracting limited nutrients.Source:National Geographic.
