This season we saw a rather large overhaul for how the splinterlands ranking system would play out. I wanted to give it a few days before I wrote my review on the changes and not jump the gun so I could give some serious feedback and insight.
A Little Backstory
For those of you who don't know I got involved with Splinterlands back in Alpha days and while I don't have a max Alpha deck (but kind of close) I did make a mission at the time to max out my beta deck which I did 2x almost 3x over. Sure I sold some cards over the years but for the last few I've done nothing but stacked.
I feel like during those days I was most likely one of the biggest "investors" into the game until we came out of beta. After that point things really started to take off and big money came in pushing me way down the ranks of heavy investor.
I've put forth a few goals for myself of which I have to say I didn't end up reaching but I did give it my all. There's still plenty of time to keep building and these new rewards are now making a difference.
I went semi heavy in Chaos which still burns me to this day but I feel over time Chaos cards could come back in value. While not crazy I would say at least break even prices again if not a bit better.
I also used to rank in Champs on the regular but for the last two years as bots became a big issue I found myself with my max leveled decks quickly back in bronze and trapped. Trapped so much so that I ended up not playing anymore and just rented everything out. I feel like a lot of people did and that's a part of the reason why the rental market became so saturated and driven down in price. Out of my $70,000 card deck at the time I was lucky to make close to $10 daily from rentals which is pretty nutz in a bad way.
The Battles Today
Since the above happened I started playing battles again. I was still stuck in bronze but knew there would be some positive changes coming and that I needed to start getting at least some reward cards.
It didn't take me long with the new changes to get myself out of bronze finally and into sliver. Which I'm still pretty much stuck in but slowly climbing as you can see from this updated screenshot I took last night.
From that I've been starting to gain an increase in rewards.
It might not seem like much but after being in bronze for so long it's a very welcomed change for sure!
That coupled with max rewards from the SPS I have staked is surely helping but also the battles and the rewards from each are a nice change as well. The system now pulls from one large pool and I have to say the only people I could see being mad about this change are the few at the top that where just sucking up droves of SPS etc while us little guys (but not really I had over $100,000 in NFT card assets at the time) made pretty much nothing.
Here's an example of a battle I just played.
With some Gold NFT tossed in there It earned me a nearly 8,000 RP to unlock more chests and also 0.331 SPS. Now that might not sound like a lot but if we see SPS go back to $0.25 or better that's a cool 8 cents per battle all the way back here in silver. I've seen other people in champs earned something like 30 SPS per battle or nearly $1 worth of SPS per battle. If we saw SPS rise to $0.25 they would be making a massive $8.25 per battle win! That's pretty crazy when you think about it.
The other parts I'm wondering with this change is how many people are burning SPS for more rounds. I know on the first two days I ended up burning a little because it was so cheap in bronze rank and I knew I wanted to get to silver. Pushing into silver thought those prices start to go up which I don't see a return on value just yet. However if reward card values go up and SPS as well we could see a increasing burn and possibly a burn of SPS for DEC just to play more matches.
I personally think we are getting there but I also hope the team doesn't become too distracted and still focuses time on land as well so it's ready for this bull run. I would hate to once again go through another bull run with land pretty much not working.
