For some months, I had been searching for a way to pay for products on online without having the $20 per month limitations placed by the Central Bank of Nigeria CBN. It is quite annoying that one is always limited to making payments online, or buying goods from the famous Chinese online store AliExpress.

I could remember a time, maybe some months ago when I was in the car with @olujay asking me if I have an ATM card that he could use to buy items to build his final year project. And in my thoughts, I was like aren't these items more than $20 worth? and obviously yes they were. I still don't know how he managed to get those items or if he has gotten everything now.

So I have sourced for fin-tech companies that offer Virtual Dollar Card, which would be able to keep USD, receive and send. The first I heard of was Barter By Flutterwave, but I didn't really enjoy the service and their Virtual Card until they stopped their service due to an issue with their partner.

Luckily, Chipper Cash came to save the day 3 days ago by launching Virtual Dollar Card. I used to have a chipper cash account but I had forgotten my details and had to create a new one. The registration process was smooth and I got fully verified after I linked my BVN and shared my NIN slip.

It didn't take long I was given a Virtual Naira Card and a Virtual Dollar Card. I tested the Card first with my Apple Payment Method and it went. This stuff did not go with Barter's Virtual Dollar Card and I was really happy that I have finally found something I can use to make payments, especially my Apple and Google cloud storage.

To note: Chipper cash is available in countries like the US, the UK, Ghana, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Nigeria, South Africa, and Kenya.

What a good news. Last 3 weeks, I wanted to order for a gadget online from aliexpress only to be told that I have exceeded required amount. I tried several time, to no avail. Then I did a little research and realized there was a $20 restriction placed since around February. I was like, WTF? from $100 last year to $20?

Feels good to see this development. There's another alternative though - One can still use a dollar master card which has no amount restriction.

Smiles. with the current devaluation in Naira, things are getting tougher!.. Imagine when I wrote this post, I traded dollar at 612naira/$, now the same company wants to trade it at 750/$... The distance is much oh!

I went to the slot to buy a phone today, hmmm😭, the phone I prized last before I travelled just added extra 20k due to the dollar increase. Mehnn, I nearly shade tears looking at my 20k going down just like that within one week gap

I've seen similar facility in my country as well, i don't like central banks limitations and these type of facilities are much better and easy way

Personally tried and this virtual dollar cards service are too Good but is it fine to say they're virtual banks of Gen Z.?

It is good to know that you found a way to make those payments.
Sometimes, the rules and limitations by central banks are annoying. What I am thinking is limitation of 20 dollar is quite less. Is it due to the economic condition??

Economic condition? I don’t know. But it is quite annoying when they reduced it to $20. It was at first $100 a month, then started dropping slowly.

They should just say we are not allowed to make international transactions.

Hehe, my man. I eventually got the components I needed for my project, but it did not come without some hassle. I had to split everything I needed to get into different groups and had to gather many ATM cards to pay for them each. It was not funny at all.

I have also learned about Chipper Cash and even registered, but just like you initially, I did not give it much thought. Now that you have mentioned that it does have virtual cards that actually work, I am very glad it exists. I will be needing to make international payments soon, and there is not a better time for me to learn about this than now.
