NLC STRIKE FOR INCREASE IN MINIMUM WAGE~SOME SHORT COMINGS, AND FINANCIAL STRUGGLES

in #hive-1679224 months ago

The current strike ongoing in Nigeria is as a result of non compliance of the federal government to the (NLC)-Nigeria labor congress and the (TUC)-Trade union congress which started yesterday 3rd June 2024,

The ongoing strike being nationwide has caused a total shutdown in different sectors in the country including the aviation, health sector, even electricity, power holding company joined the strike which has led to a total black out of power supply in the nation. Public schools and universities in Nigeria have gone incognito all seeking an improvement on their minimum salary, the labor unions are demanding the new national minimum wage of N494,000 which the Government has rejected and said to be unrealistic, although the federal government has offered N60,000 but the unions have rejected this offer.

There have been several strikes in Nigeria but I think this current strike is very simple and paramount, the current economic saga in the country is not a joke so the trade unions are just being positive. It is either you fix the economy or you increase our minimum wage.

As a Nigerian no doubt this ongoing strike is for good but it's not really appealing to me because I saw the struggles people faced just yesterday that there was no power supply, our everyday gadgets like phone and laptops all went off paying N200 naira just to power your phone is mad not to talk about other things like water because no power supply to pump water in some public borehole people were suffering to get water the little money there are supposed to buy a garri is now used to buy water imagine buying a pale of water for N50 naira

The strike has a lot of impact on our Life when I went to work today I saw crowds of people waiting in a betting to power their phones I was shocked, some were in a shop struggling with suckets and chargers the even had to contribute money to buy fuel just to charge their phone
This is actually what I'm trying to say

SOME EFFECT OF INDEFINITE STRIKES IN THE COUNTRY

These are just the outstanding problems faced by the masses.

Shutdown of port operations;the ongoing strike as also affected port operations, maritime workers have stop worked in different locations, so there is no movement or importation of goods on cargo vans intra states.

Disruption of rail way services; railway workers have also joined the strike, this was another way of transportation that gives ease and reduces the numbers of road users.

Closure of schools; some schools have been shut down which are public schools while the private schools are opened and working, now the pupil in Government school are delayed in studies and sometimes can't meetup with the corriculum for the term,

Disruption of power supply; this is the worse part of the whole situation the light served as a help to at least reduce the use of fuel considering it cost.

Disruption of healthcare services; some health sectors have been shutdown while others which are the private hospitals remained operational.

This are the bad side of the ongoing strike in the state leaving things to be complicated for the masses.
