Happy LEO Power Up Day everybody! It's the fifteenth again and like every month I went ahead and powered up some LEO tokens. Today I did a descent power up of 578 LEO bringing my total to just over 2,000 staked in total. Currently LEO tokens are relatively inexpensive so powering up isn't all that painful if you don't have any liquid LEO. Hopefully we'll see a nice increase in token value in the coming months!
And because power up day posts tend to be very short, I always like to blend in something else just to keep things interesting. As luck would have it, today is Friday and I usually participate in Nineties Friday. It's a weekly event in which you can share just about anything from the decade of the 1990's, your imagination really is the limit on this one. One week @summertooth 's imagination took us all the way back to the 1890s', that was hilarious!
The event was started by @geneeverett so first off thanks to him. One winner each week is randomly chosen to win 6 HSBI units, three from Gene and three from me. So I'm the proud cosponsor of the event! Feel free to jump in the fun and join us, and maybe even win some HSBI units, and you can never have too many of those. They're the gift that keeps on giving! To enter just create a post which you can place in the Nineties Friday community or just add #ninetiesfriday in your tags. Never a bad idea to do a shoutout to @geneeverett just to be safe.
First up let's jump into a fun gadget from the 1990's!
George Foreman Grill
George Foreman was a professional boxer who won the Heavyweight World Championship in 1973 after knocking out Joe Frazier in two rounds. It was considered a stunning defeat at the time. Since then George has kept busy as an entrepreneur with his namesake grill! The George Foreman Grill was released in 1994 and I remember seeing informercial after infomercial as Foreman himself was the spokesman. The grill is angled slightly forward so fat would drain out leaving your food less fatty. I never owned one of these, but I remember it well from all of the commercials!
Now for some movies from the decade!
The Mummy
filmpurgatory.com
The Mummy was released in 1999 featuring Brendan Frazier and Rachel Weisz. It was a period film based in 1926 in Egypt when many of the great archeological expeditions were still taking place. Weisz's character inadvertently reanimates an ancient evil mummy with magical powers and plans to take over the world. It's a fun action movie worth watching if you haven't seen it. It was done much better than the Tom Cruise version that came out several years ago. I have seen it on television more times that I can count and it's still fun to watch!
Groundhog Day
austinchronicle.com
@silvertop has requested this great film be included in one of my posts. Groundhog Day was a hilarious movie starring Bill Murray and Andie MacDowell, released in 1993. The movie features Murray's character as a selfish and narcissistic weatherman who is trapped in Groundhog Day in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania. He is forced to relive the day over and over no matter how hard he tries to end the cycle. It's a great comedy, and worth watching if somehow you missed it. Bill Murray was still in his comedic prime back in those days!
Now for some music from the decade!
Soundgarden
musicradar.com
This Seattle, Washington band formed in 1984. They helped introduce the grunge sound to the music world along with Nirvana. Their second album "Badmotorfinger" was released in 1991 and became a huge best seller. One of the biggest hits from the album was "Outshined":
Nirvana

This band formed in Aberdeen, Washington in 1987 and went onto to become rock legends. In 1991 the album "Nevermind" upended the rock music industry with a whole new sound. On their performance on MTV Unplugged they did a fantastic cover of David Bowie's "The Man Who Sold the World":
Foo Fighters
thetiger.fm
Formed in 1994 by front man Dave Grohl, these guys have become rock royalty. Over the years they have kept producing more and more hit music. But in 1995 they released their self titled album that led off with this great song, "This Is A Call":
Blink-182
nme.com
This California band formed in 1992 and went onto punk greatness. They released their third album in 1999 called "Enema of the State" that produced several big hits for the band. One of them was "What's My Age Again?" where the band runs around naked in the video for absolutely no good reason whatsoever:
I lived most of the 1990's living in countries that really only spoke Spanish, so I like to include a song or two in Spanish from the era.
Merengue music is very popular throughout the Spanish speaking Caribbean islands along with salsa music. They are both a lot of fun to dance! Today I feel like going with some merengue.
Elvis Crespo
primerahora.com
This Puerto Rican singer gained fame in the mid 1990's as a member of the merengue band "Grupo Mania". He subsequently went solo and had several hits on his first studio album "Suavemente" (Smoothly), in 1998. This is the lead off song by the same name:
That will wrap up this dual post of LPUD and Nineties Friday. I hope you enjoyed some or all of the fun stuff I had to share with you today. Please feel free to leave any questions or comments below. I would like to say thank you to everyone for all of your support, it truly is deeply appreciated. Have a great weekend everyone!
