Over the last couple weeks fall temperatures have really started to kick in. I absolutely love this time of year when all the leaves are turning beautiful shades of orange and red. This time of year I really envy all you living on the east coast of the US because fall there is spectacular! Here in southern California we really don't get all splendor of the leaves changing!
The only bad thing about fall is that soon winter will be rolling around. It's the time of year that I really start thinking about heading to the Caribbean! This year I'm pretty sure I'm going to make that trip back to Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. It's been a few years and the time has definitely come. I've been sharing my sunken ship treasures of the Caribbean series of coins the last couple of weeks and I think that is what has made up my mind to head on back this winter.
Today I have another coin of the series to share also minted by The Franklin Mint for the British Virgin Islands. This one features dividers used in sea navigation, at least I believe so. As I have mentioned before I am definitely not a sailor! A fisherman and diver yes, but definitely not a sailor! Have a look at this beautiful coin, the photos were taken with the plastic capsule still on an it's a little scratched, but you still get a good look at the coin. When I took most of these pictures it was for insurance reasons and I wasn't always after the beauty shots.

I love the Caribbean coin series dealing with the ocean, and that's why I bought up most of this particular set. I think I am missing a few that I will have to pick up when I come across them at a good price. If you are new to coin collecting this 1985 series is not a bad place to start because they usually aren't horribly expensive and are made with sterling silver.
They were commissioned by the British Virgins to commemorate all of the lost gold and silver lost at the bottom of the Caribbean sea from shipwrecks over the centuries. And believe me there is a lot of treasure out there just waiting to be found. Maybe I'll get lucky on my trip this winter and find some! I can already picture myself on a beach like this one....
