What's up plebs!

I have been silently stacking more silver lately.. nothing fancy, the regular junk stuff I can get as close to spot as I can.

This is one of the latest additions to my stack :)

1000004714.jpg

A 1935, 2 Shillings / 1 Florin coin from Ireland!

1000004718.jpg

You know I love animal themed coins so naturally I was happy to score this baby for close to spot. Unfortunately many of the details of the fish have been destroyed by the passage of time but that's what you get for being a cheap bastard like me πŸ˜„

1000004719.jpg

The fish is a salmon, possibly a reference to the Salmon of Knowledge (Irish: An BradÑn Feasa), a creature in the Fenian Cycle of Irish mythology. That..or they just eating salmon. Dunno 😢

Nothing else on this side, other than the denomination (FlΓ³irΓn 2s)

If we flip the coin we have a ClΓ‘irseach, aka the Gaelic harp. Now that's a symbol I am more familiar with...thanks to being an alcoholic a beer aficionado

The Celtic harp is a triangular frame harp traditional to the Celtic nations of northwest Europe. It is known as clΓ‘irseach in Irish, clΓ rsach in Scottish Gaelic, telenn in Breton and telyn in Welsh. In Ireland and Scotland, it was a wire-strung instrument requiring great skill and long practice to play, and was associated with the Gaelic ruling class. It appears on Irish coins, Guinness products, and the coat of arms of the Republic of Ireland, Montserrat, Canada and the United Kingdom source

Not much text here either, other than the minting date and SAORSTÁT Γ‰IREANN for Irish Free State!

1000004721.jpg

Nothing special on the edge either.

Ok, some more shots

1000004723.jpg

All in all, a simple coin. Just how I like them :D

Oh, almost forgot. It's 11.31 grams of 0.750 purity. Not bad 😁

1000004722.jpg

Ok, this is it for today plebs!

That would be a great coin if you could see the detail of it.

You looked great in the 1930s as well πŸ˜†

I thought that you could only find salmon coins here in Canada hehehe
nice one!

Lol. !pimp

That is nice! I don't have any Irish coins at all, that design is nice. Simple yet beautiful. Great addition to your stack!

I didn't know they were originally real silver!

Salmons? :p

I'm recalling the pre Euro 10 pence coin of the same design, when I was younger you'd occasionally still get some of the old pre decimal money floating about , 2S was the decimal 10pence, the "bull" was another, the 5p coin was a shilling:-)

"I'll bet ya the Bull", was a way of agreeing to a token shilling wager for sport, but it had the innuendo of something more valuable

Hahaha, I don't think you're that stingy, maybe the coin deteriorated over time, time always takes its toll on everything

I knew that salmon is good salted, smoked, fried and boiled, but now I will know that it is also cooked in silver :)

How long is one minute?
It depends on what side of the bathroom door you're on.

Salmon of knowledge? That is weird and I don't think I have heard about it before. I guess they must love eating Salmon.

It's a popular story in those places !

!pimp

It's why you suck your thumb when searching for an answer or trying to remember something....do you know the story ? , it's a goodun

My sister married late in life, and the fellow she chose was very attached to his Irish roots. The had a simple reception, with one refinement: a harp player.

The harp side of that coin is really clear.

Haha. Sounds Irish alright πŸ˜„

Good addition. Nothing like inexpensive silver, @trumpman .

Salmon and beer...
That's actually what the coin is for.

Fried or roasted Salmon with a pint of chilled Guinness and that's a meal that needs to be on silver!😌

Nice add. Cheap silver is the best. I just sold 20oz to buy more LTC.

Never understood why people get ltc πŸ˜†

Thanks!

Greetings, I like the one with the fish because the detail near the edge of the coin matches like small sharp teeth, I think it looks good for the fish.

A quaint reminder of my teen summers I worked on the salmon fishing ships. If only I was smart enough to start stacking then rather than spending away my cash on stupid stuff.

Stack salmon? Sounds like a bad idea! 😧πŸ€ͺ

Uncanny. πŸ˜… I remember meeting a Shore worker guy who stacked silver back then. Now I understand what he was babbling about.

I love the taste of Sockeye salmon and keep a supply of Canned Sockeye on my shelf. The only issue is the elevated presence of Cesium 136 from the Fukishima disaster in Pacific sourced seafood. If you get cancer, you are as they say, Fuked.
I make sure to have my multivitamins with Iodine.
