I didn't have any issue picking a topic today as I'll be writing on the fifth topic trying show you who I'll try be at 60.
To me, this is like setting goals for the future. I'm currently heading towards 30yrs of age which means I've only got almost equivalent of the years I've spent to achieve these goals.
I have a lot of plans and things I'll love to have achieved at 60 but I'll highlight the three most important ones
To me, retirement is an achievement of deserved rest after a whole life of labour and hard work.
This may sound funny to some people but this is what I want. I'm not talking about the kind of retirement where I'll leave a government job to start my own enterprise. I mean I want to completely stay off any form of hard labour.
I'll love to retire to my home town, living in a very comfortable duplex with a beautiful garden and environment. It will definitely be a center for tourism.
I anticipate my retirement to be peaceful and spent together with my wonderful wife. I can picture myself with children and grand children coming around for holidays and celebrations
The only job I want to be doing is to entertain important visitors, counsel young people and share from the wealth of knowledge acquired over the years in my profession and life at large.
How do I plan to achieve retirement at 60
Being a young medical officer now, I plan to soon start my specialty training in orthopedic surgery. I'm not planning to work for the government but for myself because I love my freedom. I should have been able to fully establish my internationally recognized orthopedic center with capacity to train intending specialist.
Once I achieve that, I'll put mechanism and structures in place to ensure continuity without my presence.
I'll do everything in my power to make this happen on time. Once this is achieved, I think I'm good to go on retirement. It is not about how far but how well.
Also, I'm a young married man with aim to have children soon. God willing, I should have started having grand children at 60 to enjoy retirement with.
There's a very common practice here in Nigeria. The society believes that the old should depend on the young for finances because they are old and not working again. This is very common partly because the government has failed in most cases to release pensions to retired fellows. This always expose those elderly citizen to go through hardship later in life.
There's also a believe that children are born and raised to bear the burden of their parents when they grow up.
I really do not support this ideology and as the lord liveth, I'll not depend on my children for my finances and never will I train them for selfish intentions
I'll be 100% financially independent and enjoy my retirement to the full.
What I'll ensure most for my children is to make a name that can open doors of opportunity for them in the nearest future. This I believe to also be an achievement.
How do I plan to be 100% financially independent at 60
I'm really working hard and smart now at a young age. I've started making investments and I plan to improve on this as I progress in my career.
Once I'm 30, I have plans to start a pension plan with an insurance company. With this, I'll definitely have multiple sources of income as a retired fellow and have my pension as back up.
Being fit and having a sound health at 60 and above is also achievable through self discipline.
united nation's definition of old age starts from 60years reason being that a lot of health challenges will surface from this age. Ranging from common high blood pressure, arthritis to diseases like Alzheimer's and malignancies.
This is very crucial to how well one will enjoy retirement and old age but one can achieve a sound health through a healthy life style at a younger age.
How do I plan to be fit and healthy at 60
It's true that genetics and some luck is needed to be able to enjoy sound health as an elderly fellow. From experience, I've encountered elderly patients with both extremes of health status and I've realized its really not in my control but then I have a role to play.
I have an idea of diseases to expect at that age from my family history and I've started adjusting my lifestyle from this early age in anticipation.
- I've reduced my level of junks and carbonated drinks intake to the minimum level possible and I'm working on stopping it completely.
- I also exercise regularly to keep fit
- I don't take medications unnecessary
- I neither smoke nor take alcoholic beverages.
This and many more measures are in place to make sure I'm living a healthy lifestyle so I can enjoy good health at my old age.
If nature happens and i end up having any old age disease, I'll accept it without any guilt knowing fully well that I played my path when I was younger
Having said all, I believe at 60, nothing much can be done again and the best achievement will be to look back in time and feel fulfilled with little or no regrets, to be full of life and peace and ready to enjoy old age till death comes knocking.
