Weekend experiences: Pride month celebrations in the north of the island
Hello dear friends of Hive and Weekend Experiences! Today I come to share with you something I experienced a couple of weekends ago, when I traveled one Saturday to San Antonio, Ibiza, to see a friend and have dinner with two other friends.
Although the meeting was extremely quiet and we simply shared a dinner, in the end we ended up staying in a kind of party that was set up in the street and that alluded to the beginning of the celebrations of the Pride month of the LGBT community.
The stage they had set up was quite large and was located in the central square of San Antonio. And not only was there a show on stage, but also many costumed people were walking through the audience.
The rainbow-colored flags were waving loudly through the crowd, and the typical feeling of freedom was in the air.
Every minute more and more people crowded into this totally open, public and free space and sang in unison to this month's signature songs, which are generally about living a life of freedom and being good with who you are.
There was one song in particular that I had not paid as much attention to as I did that day, and that is Diamonds by Rihanna. The performance was beautiful and very profound.
It made my skin crawl to hear not only the singer but also the people singing in a group.
There was a drag queen who inspired the entire audience, explaining why he had dressed as a bull. She wanted to express freedom. I wanted the bull, such a rough and masculine animal, to be able to express its feminine side as well. This was a very nice concept indeed.
To our surprise, this party was quite short-lived. At 11:00 p.m. it was already ending. Everyone wanted more. I must admit that it was a great opening and a strategy to leave the public expectant for the rest of the month, as they said this was just the beginning.
People were looking for what to do in that city full of options. Romi, a friend from Mendoza that I have known since I was 21 years old, stayed from my friends. Even though we don't have a great relationship, the fact of being so far away and having crossed paths in Spain is something that somehow unites us.
From that festival, we ended up going to a pub called Ibiza Rocks, where the music they played was excellent! 80's - 90's style, my favorite! We danced a lot, so much that my feet hurt.
Then I had to sleep in Romi's apartment, which luckily had a free sofa. I had to opt for this because there were no buses to go back to Santa Eulalia which is where I am living.
I don't think I'll do it again, hehe, because I ended up extremely tired since I had to work the next day at noon. Anyway, it was a nice experience!
