"Whoever is careless with the truth in small matters cannot be trusted with important matters."
I love how these topics from the #weekend-engagement intiative always give me the chance to ponder about things that might be happening around my environment in real life or digital life. The fact that all are related to honesty and how to channel it through empathy or duty is an amazing opportunity to explore our personal values.
Let me start by some random school fact. I was the kind of kid that would go to the teacher and tell them the grade on my exam was higher than the actual sum of total points.
Yeah, maybe it doesn't sound weird for every but...
We live in Venezuela and the idea of being cunning is celebrated in the culture. Our stories of Brer Rabbit have sipped into the collective identity. So, if you're notsñ screwing someone over for your own profit, what are you even doing?
This is a kind of thing that has repeated itself during the course of my life. I have to confess that I have been forced to accept the fact that it can't be changed sometimes. But I'm never looking to profit with dishonesty. If I were to come home and have something in my bag that isn't on the note, you can be I'll be going back either to return it or to pay for it if I need it.
There's already a lot of people preying on other in this society and screwing ourselves more won't help one bit to stabilizing the crisis. Let alone try to make things better.
I know that going back to the establishment might seem suspicious and I'm more than aware that there'll people mumbling about my dumbness and other stupid ideas they might have, but I can't even sleep when I owe my music teacher money for the classes. And he's already told like a million times that the payment can be done as soon as I have the money for it. Even it comes in parts. Even if I'm still taking classes each week.
This all comes back from the idea of not getting on any debt. And I mean any kind of debt. Lies tend to be the kind of thing you have to pay for sometime in the future as long as you want to keep pretending it's a factual truth. But you cannot fool yourself. If I were to let something like that store situation pass, I could risk making of it a habit.
That would be even tougher to amend.
Maybe some people would find it too problematic to move back to the place and pay for the object. But I don't wanna judge anyone. To each their own. It's just that I have a conscience...
A truly annoying one.
...and I like to sleep like a log.
