Even though I'm 41, I've never known true love. Because I live in Gaza, where love and relationships are taboo, I had an arranged marriage. After two children and an eight-year marriage that was riddled with problems and disagreements, the divorce occurred in 2015. My connection with my ex-wife and her family is now good, and my children are not severely impacted by the divorce, which I was worried would happen. They come to me whenever they want, and I can visit them whenever I want. Because I am the reason they are in this brutal world, my time and love for my children are what enable me to hang onto this world. We reside in Gaza, a region that is continuously at conflict, thus I am unable to try out marriage and love right now in order to prevent further heartbreak from love.
Is love the key to life? For many people, this is the question that comes to mind. What then drives this unrelenting yearning for love? Is it to give our lives more purpose and meaning, to get away from loneliness, or to grow emotionally linked to life?
In my opinion, it's crucial for a person to engage in a variety of relationships and go through different experiences in order to figure out exactly what he wants in a partner. Yet I can't deny that sometimes relationships are monotonous and boring and that they don't endure forever.
Yet we must keep in mind that each person is different and has different priorities in life, especially in relationships. Hence, some people may find success in long-term relationships while others may find success in short-term partnerships.
In general, love plays a significant role in our lives and can bring us joy and a sense of community. However we must keep in mind that other factors also contribute to the value and significance of our lives. Not just in romantic relationships, but in many other facets of life as well, including work, interests, hobbies and other relationships.
