Between professional success and personal happiness I would take personal happiness in every possible opportunities. But, yes, there is a but!
- What is actual happiness?
- How can one be happy?
- Can things make one happy?
- Is there a happiness switch?
"Happiness is a choice, not a result. Nothing will make you happy until you choose to be happy. No person will make you happy unless you decide to be happy. Your happiness will not come to you. It can only come from you." - Ralph Marston
Looks like Ralph Marston have the answers. I do not understand the concept though. I want to be happy, so I decided I will be happy from now on, and will I be happy then? I highly doubt it. I know the first part of happiness being a choice is a fact. At least for materialistic happiness.
Again, Aeschylus told that there is effort needed to be happy. How much efforts are needed and what are those? Okay, I am gibberishing outside the things I were to express.
For the last decades or so, I am stuck at a complex situation. One may see me laugh, going out, playing games which might seem like I am enjoying myself. But deep down, I am searching for mental peace, I wish to be happy as I am cut off the blessing. I use those as distractions to jump in a fictional reality. I do not know the fixed mindset of myself is the result of my lack of happiness or as the saying goes idle man's brain is devil's workshop is reflecting through my life.
The two options i.e., Professional Success and Personal Happiness may seem go hand in hand. Achieving one may bring another thing. But, the success means there is more in the path, more hurdles to overcome, as there is no end to success. On the otherhand, reatining happiness will also take effort. But the latter can be easily achieved.
There is a saying in our country which can be roughly translated as, 'The days passed are the better days' which makes me even more nervous! If that is true, then no matter how I want happiness, I am not going to have it! Well, time will say.
