This is no news and it may feel like a rant but I cannot help but put this down. I really get mad if anyone assumes that the way ladies react when experience menstrual cramps is unnecessary. That's a terrible thing to say. It's said that only the one who wears the shoe knows where it hurts and that's true. Cramping can be so intense. Most times I keep wondering why I get punished for not being pregnant because that's truly what it feels like.
The cravings that come with menstruation are crazy but bearable. You long for weird foods at weird hours. I could wake up at 2am and toss in bed just because I'm craving shawarma from my favourite eatery. This eatery might be 3 states away from me but that's just what I want. It's crazy to have your body pushing you to do things you wouldn't do normally. Again, this is bearable.
The mood swings! Anytime I'm close to my period, I try to make sure that I have enough money to get myself most if not all the things I'd be craving. This kind of makes me feel much better. But you see a situation where a lady is menstruating and she's broke? I don't wish that on anyone. Normally the mood swings will be there but it's worse when you're broke because I get angry and snap at the slightest discomfort.
Energy drainage is another reason why I don't like menstruation. During menstruation I always feel like a kryptonite is used in drawing my energy magically. I can always imagine it diffusing out of me and getting into the kryptonite. I once fell trying to carry a bucket of water to the bathroom. I get really sleepy and lazy about everything. I always end up with a pile of unfinished work at the end of it, then I'll try to use a day to finish up all that I left undone because of the "ladies sickness".
They've been cases where I've had to skip school because of cramps. Sometimes if a lady is experiencing a heavy flow she has to keep going to the restroom to monitor the progress so she could change her pad immediately if it's full.
I see some pad producing brands advertising how comfortable ladies will feel when they use a certain pad. The Always brand has this slogan that says "eight hours, no check no stain". I don't know if it's just me or other ladies do agree that this is barely true because menstruation keeps me at edge. I'm always conscious, I put on dark coloured clothes to prevent exposure if I'm stained. I always have to check if the lines of my pad are outlined on my dress. This isn't comfort to me.
The body differences that come with menstruation too. Larger, sensitive breasts, sometimes bloating and purging, fever, headaches… It's too much. Some people rely solely on meds to get through this period every month and that's not nice. It's terrible that when a lady is menstruating it's trouble, when she gets pregnant it's equally more trouble, likeeee! This should be enough rant. I just wish there was an easier way. But then… but then… I wouldn't choose to be a man in the next life😅 I'll survive this, I'm surviving already.
This is my response on this week's Weekend Experiences prompt, option four.
