Punctuality: The sole of Excellence. Weekend#216

"Being on time for appointments and meetings is a phase of self-discipline and evidence of self-respect. Punctuality is a courteous compliment the intelligent person pays to his associates." ~ Marvin J. Ashton

I firmly believe for everything you are doing to prosper in life, attendance is a vital key to achieving greatness.
As someone who is an ardent advocate for punctuality, it's a trait that has been instilled in me since childhood. My upbringing emphasized the importance of being up on time, and I've made it a habit to arrive early to every appointment, meeting, or engagement. For me, punctuality is not just about being there on time; it's about respect, responsibility, and reliability.

Growing up, I was taught the value of waking up early, and I've stuck to it since secondary school. I'd rise at 5 am, prepare myself, and still arrive at school by 6:45 am. This habit has served me well, and I've never been late to school or work. In fact, during my service year, my punctuality and regularity earned me a recognition award, which I cherish to this day.

I'm perplexed by those who take pride in being late, seemingly oblivious to the impact it has on others. Punctuality is not just a personal trait; it's a professional imperative. It sets the tone for a productive day, builds trust, and demonstrates respect for others' time.

As someone who has benefited from the value of punctuality, I'm committed to instilling this trait in others. I've passed on the lessons I learned from my parents to my own children, teaching them the importance of arriving early to school and other engagements.

Being there early has a lot of benefits.

  • Punctuality reduced anxiety and worry related to being late or missing deadlines.
  • Punctuality reduces stress and tiredness caused by rushing or worrying about being late for your appointment.
  • It also creates a positive impression and demonstrates how responsible you are in work or business settings.
  • It shows respect for other people's time, business schedules, appointments, and commitments leading more deeper relationships.
  • It helps develop effective time management skills, leading to more efficient use of time.
  • Punctuality provides extra time for preparation, relaxation, or tackling unexpected tasks. It reduced wasted time.

Does going late have a drawback? Yes, it does

  • It brings disrespect
  • Loss of trust
  • Missing opportunities
  • Stress and anxiety is increased
  • It decreases one's self-esteem
  • Negative perception about your personality.

Note: Punctuality is the cornerstone of success, and it's a quality that I hold dear. It's about being reliable, respectful, and responsible. These are values that are essential in all aspects of life. By embracing punctuality, we can build stronger relationships, achieve greater productivity, and make a positive impact on those around us.
