Week 144 Weekend - My opinion about EUTHANASIA : what I would have liked to do to avoid my grandmother's suffering.

Hello again my fellow readers!

Today I return to the weekend experience community with a new weekend initiative and I found the topic of euthanasia very interesting, so I will tell you a little about my point of view on this topic.

Time to die
Euthanasia, ending the life of an ill human to limit suffering, is a very contentious issue. What are your thoughts? Talk about being for or against it and the reasons you feel that way. Is there a valid use-case and if so, why?

For me euthanasia is a very important issue to address and although it is legal in a few countries, I personally believe that it should be legalized worldwide. I really don't think that seeing a person suffering every day and enduring so much pain either physical or mental is something very pleasant, I am not in favor of seeing someone suffering and I say this from my own experience. I had to see my grandmother suffering daily because of the severe pain she suffered and not being able to breathe properly, she always told us that every time she opened her eyes in the morning was to live another day in agony and despair, I am grateful that my grandmother did not die in pain, she just slept, but no doubt all of us as a family would have liked to euthanize her long before she began to agonize and thus avoid all suffering, unfortunately in my country it is not legal.

My grandmother was a very active woman, she was a sportswoman, unfortunately life surprised her with a breast cancer, which at the time she defeated but eventually returned twice more and her lungs were the most affected, thus ending up in bed and with such a great depression, I am not only talking about the physical pain that this brought her, but also the mental pain, remembering that one day she was running and the next day she could no longer do anything else.

Like her there are more people who live with this constant agony, the desperation of not being able to live as they wanted, and the only people who are mentally clear are the only ones who must decide for their body.

I think that the governments and health entities of each country should take the matter in hand, in many scenarios the patient who is suffering can decide to apply it or not, there are others where for obvious reasons they cannot communicate their concerns such as people in a coma, a quadriplegic patient or in a vegetable state, which I think are cases where family members can intervene and give a positive response to euthanasia.

As human beings we should be more empathetic and less selfish in these cases, because we don't really know how the affected person feels, they could simply respond that they are fine to simply not worry their loved ones. The question would be, if it were legal all over the world, would we be able to let a family member live a martyrdom?

For my part no, it would give me great pain for his loss, and I would have to live with the mourning that his departure would cause me, but I prefer to remember my relative full of happiness, than to have to remember him with this constant suffering and being legal the euthanasia procedure not to apply it for fear that he would abandon me, we cannot continue with this selfish thought, this thought of believing that it is better that he suffers than to let him go away from us.

It is very painful to see how a family member dies little by little and in pain, I understand your desire to avoid such suffering.

I am sorry for your loss.

Thank you very much, it was not easy but if we had had the opportunity at that time, it would have avoided so much suffering.
