Eid-ul-Fitr is a festival celebrated by us Muslims. It is celebrated to mark the end of the holy fasting month of Ramadan. We Muslims gather in large groups to usher in the Eid-ul-Fitr festival. On this day, it’s said in the holy books that one should wear his or her best clothes, smell good and look nice. Food and drinks are in abundance. The most fun tradition about this day to the children is “Barka da Sallah “. Barka da sallah is a way of making money at the young age. Families or elders give kids money in a form of alms giving. As adults they assume you can provide for yourself. Growing up the night before Eid, one could barely sleep. So excited about this day and the feeling of going to wear all new stuff from head to toe. You can not wait to put them on and take pictures.
April 21st, 2023 was the day we celebrated Eid al fitr across the globe. Although some Ghanaians celebrated theirs the next day 22nd April. My mom woke us all very early to get dressed so we wouldn’t miss prayers since we are many in the house. The fun in it is everyone fighting to finish fast and mothers shouting around. Luckily, we were all ready on time and we left together to the the Eid grounds.
Traffic slowed us a bit on our way to the mosque. In Ghana, us muslims are dominate, which explains the traffic.
When we got to the Eid grounds, where to park was a major challenge. We had to park 10minutes walk away from the jubilee park and walk. Walking to go and pray counts your blessings by your footsteps.
We arrived there and looked for a suitable place to spread our prayer mats. The chief iman and minister were led by a parade. You could tell that a prominent person was stepping in. The chief is the most important person on that current space. He leads the prayer.
Beside where we spread the mats, I met my aunt. We joined them and prayed. After praying, we had a little reunion and took lots of pictures.
After taking the pictures, my mom and little sister left to the family house which is just close by the Jubilee park. My cousin and I went to where the car was parked to wait for the guys. We waited for so long in the scorching sun. We called them and they asked us to wait small because they are taking pictures with their friends. We were starving since we didn’t take breakfast before coming. There’s a near by ice cream joint just opposite where we were parked. We decided to go and get some ice cream for ourselves to cool down our throats a bit. The ice cream seller had just opened and was still parking and arranging. He had only two flavors stored in the freezer from yesterday’s. The two flavors were Chocolate and Pineapple. My cousin chose chocolate and I picked pineapple since it’s my favorite fruit.
Few minutes after buying they came for us to go home. On our way home, we stopped by the street before our house street to buy drinks and sachet water.
We got home and started preparing food to complete the celebration. My Eid turned out great than I expected. Been a while I’ve enjoyed Eid like I did yesterday. I feel blessed and grateful to have celebrated this year’s Eid with my loved ones, hoping to spend more with them. I hope my Muslim brothers and sisters on hive enjoyed their Eid celebrations too.
