Greetings to you my dear hivers! How are you all doing? The weekend has arrived. I wanted to learn the basics of driving, and it was supposed to happen last year, but I was too scared.
I was worried that I wouldn't be able to reach the pedals or the steering wheel, or that I wouldn't be able to see the road because I am petite, but last weekend I decided to give it a try.
On Sunday morning, after attending mass, we went out early to look for a place where we could practice driving, accompanied by my mother, brother, and grandfather.
My father began immediately after we found a good location, introducing me to each part of the car and its functions. After I had mastered each part, he showed me how to start the car and shift into neutral. Then he challenged me to drive right away.
I'm very nervous about my first attempt. At every intersection, I remind myself to "look to your left and right if there's no car, then go" and whenever I overtake another car, I say "look at your side mirrors before you go, check check check." My mom kept laughing at how nervous I was and my dad just told me to relax.
After three rounds, we decided to eat first. We looked for a fast food restaurant and were relieved to find one nearby. While we were eating, Dad taught me a lot about driving. He stated that I was a quick learner and that he could see my eagerness to learn.
Dad pointed out what I should do when driving. I couldn't stay in my lane for long because I wasn't familiar with the steering wheel yet, so he told me to focus on that first. Also, when I do u-turns, I always stop and forget to step on the accelerator pedal, so I need to practice that as well. Dad complimented me on how good I am at using the brake, saying that he feels safe because I don't step hard on it.
We returned to practicing until I got the hang of it, after how many rounds of going round and round, I can finally stay in my lane. I am more relaxed now, but I still need to work on it whenever I do u-turns. Dad warned me not to drive on an empty stomach because it's like taking an exam: you need to be full to focus.
because it was still early when we finished our first lesson. Dad decided we should go to Camp 7 to see a relative.
It felt great to be out with the family that day because the sky was so clear. Would you believe me if I said I took this photo while the car was moving? I was astounded after just clicking and clicking, and wow, I think I did a good job.
This part of the mountain is actually a popular spot where people come to take photos because of the trees lining up so beautifully. This area is known as the "man-made forest," but we couldn't pull over because we had a long way to go. Because of Typhoon Odette, some trees fell to the ground and others were cut in half.
When we arrived at my aunt's store in Camp 7, I went up to get a better look at it. It was so quiet there that all I could hear were the birds chirping.
I looked up to see the tall trees that surrounded the area, so I grabbed my phone and took a photo, which turned out like this. I liked it so much that I made it my phone's wallpaper.
This photograph of my grandfather and me was taken by my brother. We just stood there, admiring the view and talking about the driving practice we had earlier.
Here's me and my mother, who both enjoy visiting places like this. To see only greens on the mountain, a peaceful place away from the crowd.
My aunt sells buko juice or coconut juice. She gave us one each, and we sat there drinking and enjoying the breeze. I am grateful to be able to visit the place, it helped me a lot to relax after a very busy week. I will have another busy week ahead of me, so coming here was a great idea.
That's how I spent my weekend! What do you think? Comment down below! Thank you for stopping by. See you in my next post.
