Today was one of those days when I wish I had a car. I would just drive myself home, instead of walking under the scorching sun.
After Church service, I branched to my father's house as it isn't far from where I and my husband live. I stayed with my brothers for sometimes, went live on a Facebook page as part of my assignment and after everything, I carried my baby and started walking home. Like I said, home isn't far, so, I didn't really see any need to take a motorbike.
The sun was so hot and I became thirsty. I think it was because I had talked a lot. I brought out money from my bag and looked around for a shop to buy satchel water but most shops didn't open. Probably, they hadn't returned from church.
I took another route to see if I could get water because, I couldn't hold the thirst till I get home and I eventually saw a shop open. I walked closer and upon getting there, the trader was sleeping. I called her and greeted her. I then asked if she had cold satchel water as I really needed something cold.
She replied stating that she had. For traders in our environment, most times, they'll tell you that their drinks are cold but when you get it, you'll regret paying them for it. I asked her if it was really cold and her reaction shocked me.
She hissed at me and replied in a very annoying tone. Then, she went back to sleep. I felt bad. I left her shop and went a bit further.
I found another shop and asked the same question and the trader there was so calm. She replied that their water was very cold and she proceeded to get me some. When I drank from it, I was so satisfied. It was exactly what I wanted as it calmed my hot body.
I'm always careful of the people I buy things from because, their character towards me will determine whether or not I will continue to buy things from them.
Customer service is one thing traders should take very important. I know the woman might feel that my money wasn't big and she had nothing to lose but I know that next time, I will not have it in mind to go back there because of the way I was treated. Humans want to be treated with respect, regardless of whatever the case may be. Every human deserves to be respected, no matter how little the money they have may be. Every little amount is valuable as it contributes to bigger amounts.
Good customer service can lead to customer loyalty and increase in sales. Good customer service can bring you referalls. But, bad customer service can lead to a damaged reputation.
As a trader, it is important to prioritize good customer service. Though the act may seem small, it can make a huge difference in the success of your business.
