Better Laid-Off Than Worried -#WE235

I believe that everything happ me for a reason and that when one door closes, a greater one is about to be opened. This was my stand before I lost my job in February, 2024. That fateful day, I got to my place of work and got a letter from the board of directors. At that instance, I knew that something was wrong. I opened the letter and read the title. OFFICIAL LAY-OFF. Ulster read the content and found that the company was trying to maintain her finances as the current inflation rate was biting hard on production materials. Hence, the directors deem it fit downsize, beginning with the top management position.

At first, I didn't not fidget. I was so composed because I knew that I would be getting a lot of pay from my pension scheme and saving with the co-operative society. All I did was to put all files in my office together and informed some of my colleagues of the latest development. It was at this juncture that I got to know that there were five other top management staff that also got the se kind of letter as I.

My next move was to return home to have a good sleep. I slept for about an hour or two then woke up to do some cleaning in my little poultry, then went to the market to prepare a sumptuous meal for my family. I was strong that I wanted to celebrate my exit from the company, having served for over two decades. I got some fresh water fish and unripe plantain to prepare a local dish of fish pepper soup and unripe plantain.
She eventually returned with the kids and was surprised to see me at home at such an odd time. It was unusual for me to be home that early during working days.
This is one of the reasons I accepted the retrenchment as fate. I would have time for children and won't have to wake up very early to prepare for work.

I started attending my farm of pineapples, cassava, fishpond and poultry where I rear cockrel and layers.
Sooner than I thought, I started advertising landed properties via my social media platforms and was having a good cut as commission from sold properties.

Three months ago, I started a Real Estate firm. All along, I have always wanted to have my own thing. That has been my dream, perhaps, all I needed was for someone to push me to it. Gladly enough, that pusher was my former employer.
Dear friends, there are many opportunities out there that would earn you returns but the fear of trying out something new has always darkened our sight and mind.
So, this was my journey for the year ending, 2024.

Sort:

You are very correct when you said when one door closes another door of opportunities will be opened again.

I'm glad you were able to start up something for yourself, it's way better than being an employee.

Many of us have ideas on how to start a new project or business line but our fears have kept us away from making the necessary move.

Yeah very correct, that's why some have become slaves to employers
