Winning, being the first finisher, beating everyone, smashing the competition!
Only joking.
Most people think I am a bit strange but I like to run for fun.
Don't get me wrong, I like doing well and it can be very addictive but nowadays it hard just to finishing the the top half of my age group, even at a small event.
I suppose that proves how much I enjoy it. I don't really mind how long or short the run is. I have enjoyed everything from 100 metres to a 100 kilometres. To be fair, the last part of 100km was pretty hard to enjoy and I had to do a lot of walking but the satisfaction of the achievement was great.
I am not sure where it all came from but it started at high school when we were all forced to do some running for physical education classes, I seem to be one of a very few that did not seem to hate it, many would go to extreme length just to get out of it. Fake injuries or show up with notes from there parent, I just could not get enough.
I just though I was weird, but it did not seem to worry me, especially as it seem to help in all kinds of ways.
Not only did it help with just about every other kind of sport or competition. I also found it was a great stress reliever and I even seem to do my best thinking when I am out running by myself.
Running was definitely was not popular when I was young but it seems to catch on slowly. Just look at all the fun run, marathons that sell out and parkruns are getting busier every year.
It all fell into place for me when I read a book called "Born to Run" by Christopher McDougall. He explained how humans basically evolved to run for hunting and had been doing it for thousands of years.
Do you like running? Have you given it a try?
