The Hunted, The Hunter And The Hooman

in #hive-1688692 years ago

It's Sunday morning and I'll quickly check out the hoomans' balcony to see if there's something interesting. Sniff, sniff - nothing! Not even crumbs - hey hoomans, don't you think even a little bit about your neighbors?!

Never mind, I'll better hurry up into the tree before they wake up to have their morning food. Sitting up here in the tree I have a decent viewpoint of all things going on underneath me. Like the hoomans now having their food - hey you! I want some too!

Good thing I brought a nut so I'll nibble a bit on that before I go checking out if the hoomans left something - this time, hehehe.

Getting down the tree trunk can be such a chore but a little stretch and tummy scratch - mmhmmm, yeah baby, totally worth it...

Hey, there's another nut on the ground for me to - wait! What was that?!

Twitch, twitch, twitch, rustling bushes - eeeeeeeehhhhhk!!

Run, run, ruuuuuuuunnn - everyone for the rain pipe!!!

Huff puff puff - I - huff - made it - phew - just. I nearly fainted seeing those hungry-looking eyes glowing in the entry and - the fangs - oh my, oh my, oh my. I'll just sit here veeeerry quietly and count my blessings.

Mmmhmm, yum yum - I smeeelll sqiiireeeellll, where are you? Come out, come out wherever you are. No need to be afraid - of meeee, really...

Hah - there you are - chaaaaaarge!!! I'm gonna get youuuuu, one seeecoond - licking my fangs aaand brakes and... chomp!

Ouch!!

Darn' little squirrell! Why did you have to run into the rain pipe when you know that I don't fit, sneaky little bugger, you? Grrr grrrrowl, come out youuuuuu.... rrrrrh....

Hmmmph... right, I wasn't hungry anyways, have a nice life - won't last much longer anyways - hohoho.

Aaaah, lazy Sunday breakfasts with hubby on the balcony are THE best. And even better if the temperatures allow for a bit of painting outside afterward. This is exactly what I was doing when all of a sudden there was a lot of ruckus on the ground underneath me.

I looked up from my iPad and saw - whaaa? a fox - charging abruptly stopping in front of a rain pipe. There were running and bumping noises coming from that pipe while the fox was lying in ambush, waiting, sniffing and growling.

Not even a minute later the fox turned around and trotted away right underneath me.

Luckily I also had my iPhone next to me, so I grabbed it and I shot! They're a bit out of focus and not the best photos I'll admit but trust me when I say that this whole incident lasted less than two minutes. I consider myself lucky to have gotten these shots at all.

So, instead of just sharing the not-so-good photos of the fox I thought to add some squirrel photos even if they were not taken on the same day but were taken in the same spot. Looking through my library made me realize that I have a lot (!) of squirrel photos. They are such cute little buggers, right?

Well, this is my first post on the Liketu frontend and, how shall I put it, I am not amused. I wrote the whole story, clicked save draft and it started uploading the photos, one by one until - ERROR - okay, surely it did auto-save in between, right? Nope, it did not. Everything was gone!

Lesson learned, save in between, or better yet, write offline and copy/paste if using Liketu. I'm sure I'll use it again but - yeah...

Have a great rest of your day!

Cheers,

Whaaaat! You got two wild visitors at the same time. Foxes would terrify me lol, just randomly showing up geez. Do they attack? Might be quite scary for pets if that's the case!

The squirrels are always around here, they're even considered a nuisance. I think they're cute fluff-balls. The fox - yeah, if I had been on the ground it would have scared me too but our balcony is not accessible and is about 2 m off the ground. I am not sure but I think that they would totally hunt e.g. a cat or small dog if the owner weren't around. But since they're around 100 % of the time I wouldn't worry about it. The fox is still wild enough to stay out of our way and won't attack unless, of course, rabies...

Yeah I did a bit of research and it's so scary if they're rabid. Don't you have a fence or something? Good thing they're scared of humans tho so they won't bother you that much

I live in a townhouse community, so no, no fences here. If we were in a single home we'd probably have a fence just in case.

I hope your new home is working out well!

Right. I hope nobody gets hurt in the future. Do you have some other animals nearby as well? Always fascinating but quite scary to know some families get visited by bears or some shit in other places hahah. Here we only have cats who visit our yard - which is funny cos I just started letting the cats out then a few hours later they would have some horny visitors wanting to get laid. They are all spayed so they aren’t interested anymore lol. We love the new place and it’s going well so far thank you!

Well, we do and we don't. We're living in suburbia, not in the countryside. But still, not too far from here, as in walking distance, black bears (they're the small-ish kind of bears) have been seen and for a couple of years, it scared me so much that it kept me from going jogging early morning or at dusk. These days I'm going again. But it is scary how used these wild animals have gotten to us, to civilization. I'd take your cats over the bears any time!!
I'm glad it's going so well for you guys 😀

🤣 I hope that fox found a less intelligent meal elsewhere!

Hah - I totally agree! Although I guess, I mean, it's nature, right? Some giant predator could come by any moment and grab himself a little hooman, too, right?! 🤣.

Thanks for the curation!!

Depends on how big your predators grow around there 🤣

My pleasure :)
