Whether to maintain a physically active weekend lifestyle or a sedentary one is often a question that comes to mind whenever we are approaching the weekend. Weekends are usually when most of us have extra free time to either relax at home or go out to have fun.
I was taught some time ago that a sedentary lifestyle, like long periods of inactivity, can have several harmful effects on both our physical and mental health but it is not necessarily unhealthy especially when we've been active throughout the week. Physical activities have several health benefits like reducing the rate of chronic illness.

I tend to balance both lifestyles because I have been active throughout the week, so I take some time during the weekends to rest and recharge which can be beneficial for my physical and mental health. But I can't take long hours or the whole day indoors sleeping and watching television that's when I tend to include some physical activities into the weekend. Physical activities don't mean you have to do rigorous workouts. One can engage in simple activities like going for a walk, playing some sports, strolling around your neighborhood, or even doing household chores. I tend to engage in one of these especially learning how to swim.
However, we should remember to listen to our bodies. If it requires total rest, we should make sure to rest properly. Incorporating physical activity into my weekend doesn't mean I have to give up moments of relaxation. Instead, I find a way to reap the benefits of both.
Have a lovely weekend!
