Was cleaning up the house and found this. Apparently, that baby in the photo was me. I honestly couldn't tell if it was me or my brother until my mom told me.
I know I know is a typical phrase a kid growing up says to their parents because they wanted to show their independence but most of the time they don't really know because they don't have the experience. I can only attest to myself though because I said I know I know countless times when I was growing up that I have lost count. So where am I going with all this. Today, I want to compare thirty years ago vs now and decide based on my opinion whether or not it was easier thirty years ago.
To be honest though, thirty years ago I wasn't even born yet as I'm currently 28 but bear with me. I will focus on the facts of what I know but do correct me if I'm wrong. Thirty years ago was a time where the internet was starting up and there were no smart phones. There wasn't an easy way to access information. There were also less distractions at the time as opposed to now.
If we look at now, there's all this social media consuming our brains. I feel it's brainwashing children and children tend to be more willing to challenge authority. Children now don't really have to ask their parents questions anymore. They can just throw their question into google or chatgpt and get the answer they are looking for.
Based on what I've said, I believe parenting was easier thirty years ago. Now, there's just so much brainwashing. Even now children can't live without wifi. Recently, the wifi at my house wasn't working and my three little step sisters were showing some signs of withdrawal due to no internet connection. They couldn't play roblox or see Youtube etc and they complained to my dad and stepmom.
Another interesting point is that nowadays there's less interest in having children. I know there's a lot of factors but I will just focus on financial. A part of parenting is being able to financially take care of your child. Due to the rising costs thanks to inflation, I think it's fair to say that there are people focusing on trying to survive and they just don't have the money to be ready to have a child and give them a decent life.
I would love to hear a counter argument though. If you believe it's easier now, do share your thoughts in the comments.
