New responsibilities

I think it’s becoming a habit for me to talk about or post something after it has happened a while back or maybe I’m just not finding the time to do so. I had wanted to write about this weekend but I kept postponing and it’s been over a month now. This weekend was supposed to follow right after a post I made about having a stressful journey back to school.

In case you’ve forgotten, I spent longer period of time traveling back to school and when I got to my hostel, the gate was locked so I finally settled in and slept probably around 11pm to 12 am.

Now I had to wake up early cause we had an activity the next day. I was told we were to meet at 6:30 am. I think I woke up at 6 cause I was so tired but I quickly had to get ready and leave. The weather here is extremely in everything. It’s hamattan so it was extremely cold. I dressed up and covered almost every part of my body. Then I walked to campus. Since it’s been a while I’ve been around here, I should have taken my time to walked and looked around to see if there’s anything new. But I hate when I’m late and it was past 6:30 so I was just in a rush to get there.

I finally got there and I couldn’t see anyone around. We were supposed to converge here where these buses are packed but there was no one.

So I stood for a while waiting till the president finally came around.

There was a problem. We were supposed to go with a driver who would drive one of the buses into town so that we would pick up first years who were just reporting. The president said he has been calling him since morning but no answer. He went to his house and the place was locked. He called someone else livid at the same place with the driver and was informed the driver had traveled the previous night. It was quite shocking because we had made all arrangements with him and he was the only one that said he would be available. We had to carry out the exercise anyway.
While waiting and thing of other solutions, the vice president also arrived and he brought reflectors with him.

Then one other person arrived to assist us with the activity.

We should have been more but most of them weren’t in school yet. So we thought of getting a licensed driver from the town to assist us but we couldn’t really find anyone.

We settled on getting two tricycles who to convert the students to the school halls at moderate prices since they were also students.

We got to the bus station and a new set of problems started. The tricycle drivers working there said they wouldn’t agree for us to bring people from elsewhere to take away their customers. They went on and on about it till they finally agreed that the only way they would allow us is for us to bring our SRC bus.
We hung around for a while but no buses were coming in so we decided to go back to campus.

I promised to get a phone case for a friend but I haven’t had time to get it so I decided to look around for it before going back to campus.

I went to every shop I could at my eyes on but I didn’t get the particular one I wanted. So I decided to get back to campus and went to the female hall to do some other tasks.

I want to take money from the first years for souvenirs and issue receipts to them. I did that for about two or three of them then I went to my friend’s room to waste away time.

I later got a call to come out of the room and I was given food. That was a life saver cause I hadn’t eaten anything since.

I think I slept after .
Woke up later to go round and issue some more receipts till it was dark then I went to my hostel.

Sunday

I woke up with my eyes swollen.

I can’t say how or why it happened but it just did. This used to happen when I was in senior high school but I thought that was all behind me.
Anyway, it doesn’t really hurt. It just makes my eyes heavy.
So I went out to start the day.

Today there was a driver to go with us to town.

So I got in and we were on our way.
We first went to fill the tank of the bus.

Then we got to the bus station and spent a few hours waiting to get a reasonable number of students before going back to campus. The I went to the female hall again to issue receipts.
Got home again when it was dark. Just to have a little sleep and continue the routine the next day.

I was trying to put myself in your shoes while reading your post but ... oh boy, better not. I don't think I could tolerate that. Wasting so much time because lack of organized activities, waiting for means of transportation that does not arrive ... I'm just glad I am not in your shoes :)

Take care of your eyes as swollen eyes is not good. Can be caused by a number of things, among which pollution, too much dust.

Well over here, especially when it has to do with teamwork, such issues arise when other parties don’t perform as expected. It always happens!

My eyes though, I went to the hospital once and they couldn’t really figure out what the problem is. They just gave me a few eye drops and sent me home.

It sounds like you had a very eventful and busy weekend. It's amazing how even when things don't go as planned, you were able to find creative solutions to carry out the activities. I admire your persistence and hard work, especially in light of the obstacles you faced. Hope you were able to get some rest and take care of yourself despite the hectic schedule.

If I say I’ve gotten rest since then till now, I would be lying. As the days go buy, the responsibilities keep increasing. But in all, I think I’ve gotten used to it and learnt to put everything under control
